In my school, if you make classtime enjoyable, the director will get you for not making classtime serious.
If you make classtime serious, she will get you for not making classtime enjoyable.
She has already fired one teacher for erring one way and fired another teacher for erring the other way.
I can't wait to see which way she will get me. |

I'm inclined to make a spin off poll entitled:
"Do you feel sorry for the people who voted "teaching students" in Tomato's poll"?
Cynical, I know; but I do feel sorry for the dedicated and talented teachers I know who refuse to believe that their hagwons aren't all about profit, and that the product they push will be catered to customer demand regardless of how much substance and value has to be sacrificed. |

I think there has to be a happy medium. They are paying customers who want you to provide them with a service (Learning English). However, if they aren't having a good time, they aren't going to stay motivated and they will change places. A good hagwon should be able to provide both. |

The problem is, the students themselves aren't the customers! The customers are the parents. Some of the teenagers really don't care to participate in class, but our saving grace is that THEY must please the same customers (their parents) as WE must... so as long as they can convince their parents that they're learning something... we keep their business! Great scam, huh? |
