Hey there,
I was wondering if my Sony Ericsson T226 can possibly work in Korea? |

Where are you from?
Korea uses CDMA 2000, last I knew.
I think the USA technology is called TDA or TMA? Can't remember, but chances are your phone won't work here.
Also, for some weird reason, Korea doesn't subscribe to the same network for certain international phones which will work everywhere else... betting it won't work here. |

You need to give us more information if you want an accurate answer. Anyways, the chances are very VERY slim that you actually have a phone that would, one, work in Korea or, two, be able to run on one of the networks (each network/company hard programs their own software and settings on the phones that they sell). |

It's probably not gonna happen Brento. Korea's cell phone industry is very well protected and most international phones won't work here...it's not as simple as changing a sim card. Also, your phone won't be cute and cool here...and that's what it's realy about right? "What no mp3 player...no camera!!!....teacha you beggar???" |

no, the Sony Ericsson T226 will not work in South Korea due to the simple fact that the phone is a GSM phone and the system used here in Korea is CDMA.
Unless you have a phone from Verizon in the USA, it will not work here in Korea. (Verizon and SK both use the 800MHZ range, if i'm not mistaken...they also have a roaming agreement set up.)
best bet, come to Korea and buy a phone (IMO, 2nd coolest phones behind Japan are here in Korea). |

Don't those Nokia phones they advertise on CNN look like old clunkers compared to the sexy swinger phones we have in Korea.
I'd buy one myself, only I have nobody to talk to on it. |

Heh thanks guys. Yeah, one thing I never thought of... I have no friends in Daegu whatsoever. So... perhaps this is not the most neccessary thing. But having a cell is so very nice... and I am sure I'll make some friends... otherwise I'd have to live in a cave and be like Gollum! Yick!
Anyhow, I am with Rogers, and I found out I have to pay like a 200 dollar cancellation fee. Fun. So, does anyone here live in Vancouver and want a cellphone? I'll give you it free if you take over my contract. |

I have a similar question:
I have a Samsung A650, and I was wondering if it is possible to bring it to Korea this August and set it up to work with a Korean cellular service provider? Im in Canada. Can I do this?
Any advice would be appreciated. |

Jurassic5 -
Thanks for the post. That was the most direct, clear answer to the cell phone question I've seen posted. |

There is a system for roaming in Korea. I know it works with GSM phone but have not heard of CDMA phones being able to use it. Upgrade to GSM might be the route .... |
