Just wanted to know if there are many brits in seoul and if they tend to hang out together or if everybody just mixes it up?

Well.. there is a British Embassy and in it there is a British Club... but people who go there are mostly business people and Embassy staff or people who work at the British Council, so it's not really a *drink until you are totally pissed* type of place. People are posh... iykwim. Also it is by membership only and you need to know someone who works at the Embassy to join.

If you want more down to earth stuff.. then I think it's just everyone mixing together.

I imagine theres alot of GIs though, do they mix with the crowds?

I imagine not but a coleage of mine working in madrid with me told me they cause some resentment.

Yeah there are GIs.. I think they have their own crowd though.

You are a Brit, and whatever you do, stick to being a Brit. People generally are nicer to Brits than to Americans - there is a growing (if not already grown) anti-american sentiment (actually foreigners altogether, but the Americans got the bad end of the deal).. so I wouldn't hang around GIs.

This is just my opinion.. others will probably have more to add to it.

i'm british and living in seoul. to be honest i don't think there's any sort of community whatsoever... i know some of the embassy crowd through people from my university, but they're generally pretty old and a bit posh, as tzechuk said.
generally westerners do tend to stick around each other though (which is something i kinda dislike) but if you're looking for a british community, a broader western community will have to do, i reckon. as you probably know, the big foreign area is itaewon, and also hongdae has a lot too.
as for GIs, i think they keep to themselves mostly. i never spoke to any so i can't judge, but plenty of other foreigners dis them anyway...

Look in Seoul Classifieds or K Scene as I think it's called now has ads for various clubs.
The GI's tend in my experience to vary due to age, the young guys can be obnoxious which I think many would be in their situation. However the ones 30 upwards have mostly been bloody good blokes.

I don't know of any groups of brits that hang around together- all of the ones I've met have been in a mixed crowd.

Stay here long enough and you'll start using terms like "high school", "good to go" and "regular size". Yes, it's a living hell.

Also a Brit, and my "scoial group" is a mixed bag of Brits, Koreans, Americans, French, Germans and a couple of Antipodeans - I know no Canadians funnily enough.

I have been a couple of times to the Club, and although it's not really my scene, it's pleasant enough from time to time. Must get a new card though .... haven't been for nearly a year.
