Does anyone know if there are any casual softball or baseball leagues in the summer? Does it depend on the city?
Thanks a lot for any help! |

Free World,
Baseball is all over the place here, especially in the larger cities.
The only thing is that there is nothing " casual " about the way they play.

Errr yes, but unfortunately the skill level doesn't coincide with this attitude.
Even playing in the Seoul Elite League you have guys that pay $150 each for uniforms, buy the latest Easton C-Core bats who can't catch a routine fly ball or cleanly field a soft groundball to save their lives.
I realize that most of these dudes have had their noses behind books their entire lives unlike some of us from N.America who had the privilege to play almost everyday on quality diamonds, but please, just don't act like you're major league fricken all-stars when you track a fly ball like Less Nessman.
Reminds me of adjummas buying the best gear to go "mountain climbing" and then spending the day climbing concrete stairs built to the side of a paved, littered mountain with 5 thousand others that look identical to them. |

I don't know what league you are talking about Squat.
The league I am playing in ( Suncheon ) has a number players that are contracted to Kia Tigers in their second level team. Not to mention first team university players and past professional players who have hung up there boots.
Overall I think the standard of play is great.
Going to disagree with you here Squat. |

If that is in fact the case, hook a niggah up!
I've played on two different teams over the past 2 and a half years and have been utterly disappointed by the level of play. I played with a couple ex-pros last year too but they didn't impress me in the least. Half of my buddies from home who played D2 college ball could easily blow the ball past these "professionals."
The vast majority of games i played in were an agonizingly endless string of walks and errors. I finally had to hang em' up.
I've still been looking high and low for a decent league to play in though.
I'm serious here man. Gimme some details! |

Squat,
If you are anywhere near suncheon and you are willing to put the time in there are ten teams that would be happy to have you.
There is a team that is from Jin Ju that plays in the league as well.
Where are you based ?

I just realized that I misread your second message man. For some reason I thought you wrote Sinchon not Suncheon. You live around Pusan right? I'm in Seoul so I don't think a 3-5 hour commute for games would be possible. I seriously considered it though.
If the league really is that competitive I may have to seriously think of picking up shop and moving south if i plan on staying in this country for a few more years.
You gave me something to think about. Thanks. |

Squat,
I used to pitch for a Canadian university team, no great shakes, but I'd love to toss the ball around a bit if there was a team I could play for near Seoul. Any info would be appreciated. I live in Ansan...
Cheers

I'm interested if you've got a weekend league going, or one that will excuse my absence during the week. I don't finish until 10 at my new job, so I'm pretty much out for games during the week.

Well, I've been doin' a bit of asking around, and I'm not having much luck. When I ask my Korean friends if they know of any baseball league I could join, most of them look at me with a bit of a puzzled look.
The only thing I may have come up with is some sorta 'Baseball Club' thingy at my Uni. As far as I can tell, they get together and just play. So I've got a student of mine looking into to it for me. Might be something...
But if anyone hears anything, post it here! |

That sounds good to me. It may not be an organized league but it would be fun to get out and play at least. Let me know what your student finds out. |
