As I mentioned in another thread, my boss sat on her hands for months when she should have been reserving my plane ride home. Last week she dumped the ticket back in my lap and said "you do it".
Well, I borrowed a key for the school and stayed up until 2AM last night so I could call her travel agency in Canada (I only have a prepaid cell so I can't call on my phone)... and they said sorry all flights in June are booked up, but they can put me on a waiting list.
Has anyone had a problem like this before? What is the likelihood that I'm going to get on a flight? What do I do if the day of my flight comes and goes and I can't get on?
I'm not looking forward to buying a last minute ticket for two thousand dollars and then trying to get that money out of my boss once I'm in Canada. She's so cheap she actually said to me "try not to talk to the travel agent too long on the phone".

Argh.. This is the last time I trust a hagwon owner with anything more important than sharpening pencils.

What about a flight to the US and then a flight or Amtrak or ....

Depends if you have a lot of baggage I guess.

Just a thought.

i don't understand why you are using a Canadian travel agent.
you are in korea, why don't you use a korean travel agent?

Happy Tour (15th floor Migliore building) is excellent. i just booked a flight home at the end of june with no problem.

Ahh the waiting list. Dont sweat it too much...get on the waiting list for a couple of departure times. Many Koreans will book 6 or 7 departure dates/times because of the typical bullcrap of not being told until the last second. The same thing happened to me and with only a week to go I had my choice of 3 departure times and dates.

I puzzled over that too. Why, I wonder?

It's not I who chose the travel agent.
The flight was all aranged for me by me school. At least that's what I was told when I signed the contract. They gave me the ticket and told me to go to Daegu. Now at the 11th hour I'm learning that getting home was my responsibility all along. This despite that fact that my boss insisted on taking the open return ticket and keeping it herself so that I couldn't have made a reservation even if I'd wanted to. This despite the fact that she agreed several times (tho not in writing) to make the reservation for me.

Live and learn.

fine. go to a travel agent in daegu, book a ticket and give her the bill.
just because she used a specific travel agaent to get you here, doesn't mean you need to use the same one to go home.
wake up!

Forgive me if this is a stupid question or I'm just mis-reading it...you got an open-return ticket when you came over? So why are you going through a travel agent at all? If you got an open-return, you just need to call the airline you are flying with and book a date. It's already paid for.

Or am I missing something?

But he already has a ticket.. an open return one, If he goes and buys another ticket, it's unlikely that his boss will pay for it.
