I know this has probably been done before...but I'm interested to know all the same, by way of survey.
Just state your Uni job description, Nationality, and your quals, and experience. It'll be interesting. I'm finally aiming at a Uni job in the next few months or so. Although I have a suspicion that Uni's here overwhelmingly employ North Americans with Masters' from american Unis. |

Rapier, why don't you start by stating YOUR uni job description, nationality, quals, and experience. Then we'll tell you if you have a shot.
There's a reason people don't use their real names on this board... |

Name card says 'Full-time lecturer'
British
MA (not TESOL but semi-relevant)
TESOL certificate
Just under two years experience before getting hired here.
Don't be too pessimistic Raps, the language centre here is about 50/50 between North Americans and 'the rest'. |

Ok. How about "I know a guy works at a Uni. He has a degree in *beep* and he also has a piece of paper from *beep*." |

You guys are inspiring me. I have a B.A in lit., a CELTA and coming up 3 yrs hagwon exp when I finish at my current spot.
You may wonder why I've done the hogwon thing so long- I always went travelling and blew tons of cash, then was in a hurry to sign when i arrived back.
No longer. Next time I'll be able to have a good holiday and still be sitting on a heap. My next job will be at a Uni, even if its on dokdo. |

Just a heads up... Ana Lado will be one of the featured speakers at this year's KOTESOL International Conference held in October at Sookmyung Women's University. You might like to come and listen to her presentation? |

I'll be there. I met her at the last one and, in addition to presnting a lot of good info, she was a nice person, too. She didn't have anything to do with the school when I went there - her brothers ran it - but now she's really involved with it and I'm sure it's better for it. |

BA, B.Ed, Professional Teacher's Certificate, M.Ed. in Educational Psychology. (That last was great prep for this gig.) However, now at least the National Universities seem to be hiring Bachelors, not just in the FLI Circus, but also in the English Departments. Ah, well, there goes the neighborhood. |

Rapier...it still wouldn't hurt to send out all the applications. Many jobs advertise for the standard American w/Master's but I bet they can't land them all. I know some lads and lasses who only have a B.A (no celta or anything) and maybe two years at a hagwon and they landed uni gigs! But I think their natural charisma and enthusiam helped. Though you may not get a job at a place like Seoul National University without a Master's, I suspect there are many other unis or colleges that will take a great, enthusiastic teacher.
I only have a B.A in English (no celta or TEFL certificate) and 2.5 years teaching experience here. But I am going back to the States to finish my Master's in English this August. Then I'll probably come back and see what goodies I can snag. |
