I read a number of these threads and I notice that there are those who rely on personal experiences and those who rely on published experiences. Those who solely rely on published experiences seem to discredit (correct assumption?) statements based on personal experiences.
I am just wondering if my hypothosis is correct, what do you base your support of an argument on. Published information, regardless of who published it or personal experience (regardless of how unsuported it is).
I have had a number of chats with people over the years, work experiences, etc. that have provided me with information that has been borne out as truth later by published information. But it seems almost impossible to support an argument without published information being provided as well. Or there appears to be those who don't accept information unless it is provided in published form.
But does this limit the reality of a situation because it hasn't yet been published, for what ever reason. An example, 9 years ago in PNG, I spoke with a number of people from different areas who made the comment that if Bougainville gained independence, then they would seek independence for thier area's as well. This was not well recieved by others outside PNG who felt that there was no published information on these views, so no truth to them. I read now, how it has been made clear in PNG Parliament, that Bougainvilles autonomy does not allow for others to become autonomeous (correct spelling??). They did this because of the strident calls for independence and autonomy for regions. This has been known that it would happen for a number of years, but does it limit its truth because it has not been published until now. |

for the simple reason that trolls. Mystery visa changes, a company hired to spy on teachers, a person beaten by her director have all been passed off as fact on this and other boards when in a lot of cases they are complete fabrications.
that's why people ask for links so there is some veracity to a story. |

an opinion is just that - an opinion.
Fact needs to be backed up. Otherwise its just an opinion.
We had big discussions about thisa at uni... basically, there needs to be proof to stop generalisation... from reading on this site you may just conclude that teaching in Korea is a fate worse than death. this is true in many cases, but not all. thus... opinion. |
