Civil Servants Under Orders to Dress Casual
The prospect of tucked-in polo shirts and creased jeans reared its ugly head Friday after civil servants were instructed to relax and wear more casual clothes under orders by Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan. The guidelines aim to respect civil servants' individuality and freedom, but not at the expense of jeopardizing the dignity of their office. That means they may forgo ties and wear casual shirts and trousers in the colors of their choice. But the guidelines caution staff whose individuality and freedom stretches to clothes that are too flamboyant or low cut.

Encouraging individuality, huh? So, does this mean more white socks with dark suits or fewer? And will we see a return to the prince valiant haircuts that were all the rage until, oh, about last Thursday afternoon? And will they be bringing back the plaid topcoats?, that's what I want to know. |

Well, a more effective measure would be to ban black suits. Is it a crime to wear navy or tan in Korea? |

I don't have a queer eye for such things, but have you seen a Korean dude who looked good in a tan suit? |

Sounds like they are following Japan's lead. I read an article about Japan trying to introduce casual dress at work in order to save on air conditioning bills. I'm all for it anyway. Good for Korea.
