Having been to seoul a few times before i was interested in going back again to something called Club Night this month or next month. Living in Unjusa outside in the south gets a bit quiet sometimes, so i fancied a change.
Coud anyone tell me where club night is, what it involves, where i could stay, how much it costs, what sort of places do can you go to and what are the people like..ie. Korean or westerners.

many thanks

Adam

Its in HongDae on the last FRIDAY of every month.

Which means FRIDAY, May 27th is the next one.

To get there you could either get on the #6 line and exit at SangSu Station, exit 2, walk around the corner and follow the sign to HongDae University area.

Or you can get off on the green line #2 at Hongik University subway station.. and meander your way towards the front gate of Hongik University (might want to use the maps in the subway, I'm not sure the exit #).

Where you can stay? You could easily stay up all night and just take the subway/buses back home in the morning. Or look for yeogwans/hostels. Shinchon has tons of yeogwans behind the Burger King (its the next subway stop over from Hongik University on the green line). Yeogwans are around 25,000 to 30,000 won a night.

What does it involve? Its about 10-15 discos who let anyone and everyone in to any of the discos if they pay once for the band around the wrist - which costs 15,000 won. The party goes all over the place into the streets and everywhere else.. but whenever you want, you can duck into any club if you've paid your admission into any of them already.

In regards to who goes there.. every kind of foreigner and korean imagineable.. although the Korean crowd is generally more of the younger variety - early to mid-20s. The foreigners are also all over the place, and judging by looks, it seems as the mass majority are english teachers from all over Korea.

I've been here in Korea for two years now and have yet to experience the drunken debauchery and cultural experience that is Club Night. This needs to be rectified.

Anyone going this Saturday and willing to show a Club Night virgin the ropes?

PM me. I'll trade you a round of drinks and some African stories.

aw, when the nights are warmer, the party extends into the streets and the park near the clubs. sometimes that could be more fun than INSIDE the clubs.

Ah, it's actually on the last Friday of the month. Here's the Seoul Govt. website's take on matters:

Which means that Friday 27th is the next date.
Hope this helps.

Yeah just to clear that up too, it is the last friday of every month. I used to live in gwangers... and seoul/hongdae is wicked for going out so its def. worth coming out tons of cool clubs... here are some places were you'll bump into larger amounts of whities : Route 66, Tin Pan, M2, Stompers (lots of GI's there I'd avoid it its too packed) thats just a short list any place is cool though... just walk in and check it out.

Cheers,

it's really really packed in a lot of the clubs, subway train packed.

But then again, I complain about how packed it is, and then complain that I always end up going to the same places- note to self: visit less popular clubs.

Sheesh, I was planning on staying in this Friday too, guess that's out of the window!

Just to clarify then, you pay 15,000 at the first club you visit, they'll give you a free drink and a wrist band- you keep the wrist band to get into each subsequent club. Pretty much anywhere you see will be included in this price, except for OTwo (not M2).
[Apparently OTwo wanted to join the fun but aren't allowed]

Yeah, to me club night is just too crazy. The clubs are too packed. And too many whities around stealing my thunder (kidding...kinda).

what I'm saying is i'll probably be there. look for me stinking it up with my hip dance moves on the stage at M2. (in Korea they let you get on stage even if you're not a hot girl. what are they thinking?)

virtually every club in Hongdae- if you need a list there are posters plastered around the area, but it's easy enough to find the clubs.

Best way to get to the area, as Tiger Beer says is to get the subway to SangSu station (line 6), then walk up the street in the direction of the Far East Broadcasting Company (check the neighbourhood map in the subway station) and keep going till you see drunken white folk.

hehe...except for all of the Canadians who can't remove that flag they have tattooed on various parts of their bodies...

How I managed to miss that little fashion show of patriotism I'll never know but I thank my lucky stars everytime I see one. Smile
