I just got back from the Caifornia Now club in Akpujong and I was impressed with the facllities etc. The sales presentation seemed a little slick so I want to get some feedback.
Heres what they quoted me
1.3 for years, 6 months of payments, over 24 months this works out to 54,000/month which is about what I pay for my little mom and pop gym in my neighborhood (Calif is 9 min on the subway then about a 10 minute walk from the station). I will be here for at least another 18 months as I am enrolled in an MBA program here so the time committment doesn't bother me. I've been going to gyms the entire time I've been in Korea
this includes all their group classes (aeorbics, spinning, stretching) and 3 sessions with a personal trainer (they have trainers that speak English).
To me the mom and pop gyms in my neighborhood are OK but I am a bit of a novice when it comes to working out. I'd like to have some instruction and all the gyms I've belonged to very little English is spoken.
Bottom line does this seem worth it? I'm a little leary of laying out that kind of cash |

How often do you exercise back home? If you aren't the type of person who worked out everyday while you were here, that seems like a pretty long commitment. Also, you have to figure in the time that you are preparing for exams and back home for vacation. Does your membership carry over? If not... that good deal doesn't seem so good being locked into. |

Sounds like it's worth it for you, so long as the distance won't deter you from going. Most of the little local gyms have old equipment, and not a lot of variety- I'm assuming this place is more like a western style gym?
Space your training sessions out, so you can revamp your routine when you hit a rut. |

It's worth it, if you really like going to the gym and spend a lot of time there. |

Huh?
Sorry, I'm not completely clear on what that means... I think a number was left out... 1.3 for two years, maybe? My head hurts...
Anyways, that's actually not too bad for all it includes. Although a lot of ma/pa gyms offer 100,000 for 3 months, that's usually in the outlying cities, without extra classes, etc, etc...
I've typically knocked the California place cuz it just looked like an overpriced trendfest, but I s'pose for that price with all the extras it's not too bad if you live near one, expect to be here for a bit, and will actually go to the effin' place. Doesn't work for me though, cuz I have no Seoul.
Heard there's lots of teh hotness there, too. |

If you think you'll keep it up for a year, then no reason not to pay that much....
However, it might not seem like it now, but even though you seem close to the gym, the distance might be enough to un-motivate you....
I only live a 5 minute walk away, and sometimes I think "nah - it's too much hassle."
I only pay 103,000 a month ("only" being a relative term), because I'm not sure how long I'm staying here. I'm willing to pay that much because it's so much more comfortable than the mom and pop gyms where everything is cramped together, and there's no room to do abs, and they only have one pair of each dumbbell weight.
If you think you'll be disciplined enough to go 3 or more times a week, then it's probably worth it. |
