While I was at the grocery store today I ran across a magazine of logic games. It reminded me that I used one of these with great success years ago.
Have any of you ever used one of these activities?
I put the weakest student at the whiteboard and explained how to draw the grid. I cut the clues into strips and handed them out to the rest of the class.
a. Write 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm down the left side
b. Draw horizontal lines separating them
c. Write Fingernails; Salt and Pepper; Trampoline; VCR; Dusting; Picking up toys; Vacuuming; Weeding across the top of the board
d. Draw vertical lines separating them
Intro (for everyone):
When Veronica agreed to baby-sit her neice for a day, she hadn't anticipated the amount of of misbehavior that 6 year old Angela could cause. At each of four times, Veronica caught Angela misbehaving. To distract her, Veronica had Angela help her with a different chore. Can you determine Angela's misbehavior at each time of day, as well as the chore she helped Veronica with?
Clues:
1. By noon, Angela had already swapped the contents of the salt and pepper shakers.
2. The two took part in a 'dusting contest' at some point after the chore assigned in response to Angela painting her fingernails red.
3. At 3pm, Veronica discovered Angela setting the VCR to record cartoons instead of Veronica's favorite soap opera.
4. Angela and Veronica played a game of 'hide the toys in the toy box' at some time after noon.
5. Angela used her parents' bed as a trampoline at some point before she exchanged the salt and pepper shakers.
6. To distract Angela from the 11am incident, the two played a game of 'protect the flowers from those nasty weeds'.
After this activity you might have a discussion of times when the students were brats.
