You go to my computer on a typical desktop, right click, scroll down to properties and it says 224 MB of RAM.

Under normal circumstances this would tend to mean the computer has 256 MB of RAM, but the onboard video card is using 32MB.

Right? or am I wrong?

I think its reads pretty clearly.

Good call on the problem and thanks for spamming the board with this self-congratulatory post in your continuing effort to be........correct.

Social skills of a newt? What the heck does that mean?
Demo you and others were doling out advice without even reading the original posters post?! No! I am not out to be right. I just was in that case, and the only reason I even posted was because the post was going way overboard and driving poor Zappadelta crazy. At least admit it when you get something wrong without trying to insult someone (namely newts!)

Mmmm......delicious feet, mate?

I don't know where to begin, so I will assume you are totally joking, from start to finish in your highly comedic, if not a bit over-the-top, post.

I have been helping since the first post....if I didn't read, how could I continue? 224MB of RAM? Where did you get this? Onboard what?

Hehe....ok...it must be a joke. Thanks for the laugh.

You know you kinda remind me of my last boss, he would laugh it off when he was wrong... Wink

peace!

Hey guys.

I think you all might be off base on this one. I think that he has onboard video, and the reason for the "odd" amont of RAM that's showing is that 32MB of his system RAM are in use for video. I also think that his video is dying, and thus the black screen. If the OP tries a new video card, borrowed from a friend or something, then this solution could be tested.

Now that could have been the post of the year. As it turns out, your being right is overshadowed by your coarse display of pure attitude.

Too bad you didn't chime in earlier...I guess you only offer advice when it's certain you are right and can belittle others through your diagnosis. Some of us stick our necks out enough that even when we are wrong, as I was in this case, I (and probably the OP) can take it in stride.

I step up enough I'm bound to be wrong sometimes...this is far from the first and certainly not the last. I will not stop trying however, even when another decides to slap my face.

Anyways, at least I remind you of your boss. You kinda remind me of people I went to grade school with.

Bye.

What the heck is this about? Mr. Magoolli, get your facts right. You know squat about the history of the particular computer you are referring to. It was goons at Yongsan who left the screws in there. And, FYI, I built that computer while Demo looked on giving advice only when I asked because that's the way I wanted to do it so I could learn. Any lack of skill there is entirely due to my ignorance alone and I'm quite happy to take that rap as I'll admit that, like us all, I'm just a learner at this stuff.

If you want to use this board to demonstrate your lack of social skills, that's fine by me as it makes for a laugh. But both you and demo have been to my place to help me out and I greatly appreciated the efforts you both went to do that. But I'm giving no prizes for guessing who I learned more off or who had understood my needs more when they turned up at my place. So, lay off the slander...

You're right.

But:

It only has 224 MB of RAM, maybe this is the problem.

I have yet to this day never seen a desktop MB with an S-Video out when the onboard card was only 32Mb! Infact I have never seen an S-Video out on a desktop MB!

Me thinks the onboard card may have been craping out, then died. Why?

I don't think you've been reading all of the posts, yourself, chris. Here's why:

zappadelta wrote:
Yep, I made a big mistake when I did the right click - properties procedure. I clicked something and now I have nothing, black screen. I rebooted and I get the Windows XP startup screen then nothing. So, I plugged in the old computer again for now.

That's the problem right now. His video card hasn't totally crapped out yet. He just switched to a setting that he can't seem to get out of. He shouldn't have been playing with the settings, but he can try getting into safe mode to switch back to the default. He should press f8 on bootup and select Safe Mode from the list and everything will probably be okay when he starts up. Then he should change the display settings.

Listen....I am starting to think that you are less interested in helping zappadelta than you are in pointing out other peoples mistakes or oversights. I have never messed up a computer that I have built, and even if I had, you would never know, as I'm more than sure we don't travel in the same circles.

the saint and I put together a great system. There ended up to be a hardware defect, but that is nobodys fault. As for your dump truck reference, I am more than confident that the saint, nor anyone else here knows what you are talking about.

Speaking of all you don't know...you don't know me or anyone for whom I have built systems....flawless systems, I might add. On top of this, the large number of systems I have put together and upgraded for myself creates a great number of accomplishments. You seem to want to dig deep into this single oversight. Dig away....it's your hole.

I can't help but feel that you are a very insecure person and instead of gaining a foothold through your own positive actions (as could have been the case with zappadelta), you only feel better when other people stumble. Your diagnosis was great....as yet unproven to be correct, but certainly a good thought.

I will give you many more chances to feel better then, I'm sure. I will be wrong again, so keep watching carefully and be sure to jump out of your little hiding place when opportunity knocks.

At least I don't bring pea-shooters to gunfights, or, if that is too personal, IDE cables to SATA drives. Razz

See you in the funny papers.
