I am headed out to Sokcho for the long weekend and was wondering if anyone had any tips on things to see, places eat and drink. Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance,

Then you are really going to sorak-san park, right? For weekenders like us, take the cable car at the park up to the observation house. It is worth it. You can always hike a bit from there. And make sure you hike up to Ul-san-ba-ui, up past the temple. On your way back have some pa-jjon and some dong-dong-ju. Better yet, have some raw fish out at night out at Dae-po harbour. Or walk from Dae-po harbour to its back harbour (don't know it's name) even better and cheaper than Dae-po. Like wise, sipping a beer and watching the waves at Seocho beach, out by the express bus terminal isn't a bad idea either, especially at night. Seocho city can be missed. |

Honestly, there's more peace and quiet in town than you'll find on Ulsan-bawi. That people could take something so beautiful and make it so unbearably trite... quite an achievement. (Get to the top and you'll see what I mean).
There's a nice view from the top of the Sokcho needle. It is, IMHO, significantly less trite than the top of Ulsanbawi. Plus there's an elevator (although I'm sure someone is working on plans to build an elevator system on Seorak).
Master Seokbong, who moved out there from Icheon, has a decent little ceramic museum near the downtown, if you're into that sort of thing. |

There is a town to the north called Naksan that was good for a day. Nice beach and a very good park-temple but I think I heard it burned down. |

I found Sokcho pretty dull - we stayed near the express bus terminal in the castle shaped motel. We were there for the national park, and went to that the next day.
We checked out the beach a bit, walked around... talked to some locals who said that the only action there at night and worth checking out is the fish market. We paid 2000 for a cab, or you could take a bus for 900 won.
You can get a bus straight to the national park from the town, near the bus terminal. It's bus 7 or 7-1, 900 won, takes about twenty minutes. Cross the road from the express bus terminal and walk up a bit. |

Sokcho appeared to be a popular destination for many this long weekend. The weather was certainly fine. Did you have a good time? |

I heard there was an all-day, all-night music festival going on. I think that's part of why people went this weekend. |
