How did they get his number? The little card you fill out on the airplane?

Sounds like he's been reported by one of the fake recruiting outfits that were rumored to be starting up for the June crackdown on illegals.

Based on what information that I'm seeing, I'd say that he is going to get an exit order on Monday. I've known one or two people who have gotten the boot, went over to Fukuoka and came right back, and were issued a fresh new tourist visa in Busan, but I'm sure that it's very hit/miss.
Otherwise, Japan is always hiring and he can teach privates legally over there:

If I'm correct by what I read on EFL-LAW, they can't do anything to him unless they get him to admit he was teaching, or they catch him teaching.

I could be wrong, though. I'd ask over there. Let us know what they say.

And I have to think that people are crazy for posting resumes for PT work on a site these days. Or answering random ads for places they don't know.

By the way, why don't you change the title on this thread to something that alerts teachers to this new practice?

Seriously, all IMMI would have to do is post an add for 60,000 an hour and it'd be like "the fish just jumping into the boat".

I've often wondered "how" they can actually catch you. Do yuo need to be caught red-handed, or just someone saying so is good enough?

Immigration is looking for numbers right now, so they can release their redemption figures to the cynical media, post-crackdown. I think anything is possible at the moment, concerning a tourist or E2 teacher who has displayed intent to work on the side.

Anybody who is sending resumes to the recruiters who deal in privates is taking a risk at any time, but for this month, I wouldn't even bother, even if you have to live on kimchi and rice until it passes. If you have dealt with an outfit before, then you may be ok, but if you are sending out resumes blindly or putting up your resume and contact info on the P/T resume boards, as Derek said, you are absolutely fucking nuts.

I don't even know if I would trust companies that you know. I know of two recruiters in Busan who have been busted and fined heavily in the past few months. I imagine that immigration is going to be using their new "friends" to rope in some of the illegals this month.

As far as changing the title of the threat: *beep* that!!! Somebody that's so stupid to post their job on a PT board doesn't deserve any help whatsoever. And then posting the resume with their phone number and photo... they deserve to get caught.

A recruiter processing me into an E2 job asked for a contact number at my Uni so he could verify my degree. He said that some recruiters had been jailed when their teachers were found to have fake degrees. Immigration also asked for sealed transcripts, which had to be sent by courier from Canada.
