They certainly do exist. I had a new CD player installed a few months ago (Pioneer). It ran 160,000 won, only plays audio CD's, and was the cheapest one the guy had in stock. He had another Pioneer model that played mp3 CD's, but I didn't have a need for it. Don't remember the exact price, but think it was around 200,000.

Yep. They do exist. In fact, I have one in my car and it's sweet. I can put well over 100 songs on one disk.

One thing, though, I now wish I had done was to get a CD player that also worked with wma files in addition to mp3 files.

A lot of the content you can buy from music services is in wma format.

Why would I need to plug mt MP3 player into a deck that plays MP3s?

if you enjoy having discs laying around in the car then dont!
also you can easily upload more songs to the player on road trips! better than buring 2 or 3 discs.. having that option available is worth it!
also you have an LCD interface with the player making track selection much easier! maybe your friends have a new album or song on their player they just downloaded and you pick him up in the car! well just plug his player into your stereo and enjoy the music!

Well, I can fit hundreds of MP3s on a single cd.....heck, some of the players even read DVDs now....thousands of songs.

If you don't enjoy having disks laying around the car then why have a player at all? Besides, having 5 or 6 CDs in the glove compartment (thousands of songs) is no big deal.

I'm not saying it's totally useless for you...I just don't see the point.

Any 1/4 inch to RCA cable will work with a multi-plug adapter on the back of the unit.

Portable MP3 player with the FM broadcast thingy. Then worry about battery life rather than the type of media.

you mi8ght have 1000 of songs.. so how do you find the song number 549?
without an LCD interfce stereo it will be a headache!

Ok...i am no authority on car audio MP3, but man....if an MP3 player's LCD beats a Kenwood car audio deck's display, then there is a real flaw in MP3 car audio players.

Again...it's hard to believe that they would make a deck that plays MP3's but it hasn't an easy search function or a counter that lets the indexed songs on a cd be entered on the deck somewhere.

For example, if I put in an MP3 CD with 400 songs, the deck indexes them, then lets me choose one from 1 to 400 via entering the digits on the deck using aliases on the various control keys.

If this isn't possible (and I really don't know if it is or not, but I would assume it is), then yes, and MP3 player with an LCD is good.

If it is possible, then an MP3 player in a car equipped with an MP3 playing-deck, is useless.

useless???

I dont think so..

as I said earlier..
maybe your mate is traveling with a mp3 player and anbd he wants you to hear the song in the car with the other guys.. what do you do?
go to a pc bang and burn a CD?

perhaps you are trvaeling down south in your car.. and you want to download this new album that just came out what do you do?
go to a pc bang and burn a cd?
or just upload it to your mp3 and plug into your car..
I think having the option for mp3 is the way to go..
of course a stereo with mp3 player.. but the options for mp3 player..

Say "we can't right now. Listen to one of the other 4000 songs I have and stop whining." Laughing

Ummmm......buy the CD? Rolling Eyes

Anyways, I'm not against having it in the car, but for me, I don't really see it being needed.

Well, I just had a Sony CDX-R3300s installed....really great unit. Plays MP3s, CD-R, RW, WMA, CDA....very nice sound. Didn't buy an amp, although with only 52w. per channel, it could use some more juice for cleanliness sake.

Anyways...I'm a happier driver now. Burning CDs like mad....

Problem is, it has a tight restriction on filenames...no more than 10 characters. I had to batch rename most of my MP3s...not hard to do with a good batch converter, but still something to think about if you are buying a unit.

Can you throw up the name of the batch converter? I know it's been posted before in a thread around here somewhere but at the time I didn't have a use for it so I didn't pay much attention. Thanks.

Well i have bought a mp3/cd player for my car....and well it is nice. Very nice. But if I had the option of a lcd screen........it is MUCH better to be able to quickly get to the song you want. Our little remote does an ok job.

I bought another car that came with a 6 cd changer.......sucks compared to the mp3 player. Switching cd's takes time, and you just do not get the same number of songs, even if you do thats 6 cd's I have to carry around.
If I want to change cd's...stop pop open the trunk, then change em.

LCD screen, and being able to plug a mp3 player directly into the player...a MAJOR plus!

How much was it?
