I saw the posts on the other villages recently, and was just curious about this one. The arrival day for teachers is June 20 . . . anybody else going there besides me?

(I've heard and read all the good/bad/ugly about Inch'eon . . . anyone have words of encouragement?)

Hey Smee,

Yep, I'm going there too (at least in theory). I accepted their offer and sent my stuff to Korea a couple weeks ago, so I'm just waiting on the visa letter. I guess I am still a little doubtful that they'll actually pull through and produce the goods so to speak. It's probably because I've read a lot of bad stuff on here, and since it's a new school there's a greater chance of failure. They told me end of June/start of July, so I'd say I'll arrive around July 4th as opposed to June 20th.

The village isn't actually in Incheon though, it's on Ganghwado. So I guess it's a similar distance from the village to Incheon and Seoul. Probably not my first preference in terms of location, but I'll give it a bash.

So Smee, have you got all of you stuff organised, ie. visa, flight, etc.??

Ha, no, not organized at all. I was a bit put-off by the disorganization of it all (on the part of Ms. Kim, the person I've been speaking to.)

I tried to get my visa application letter in the states . . . but I was told I needed a copy notarized by the K Consulate in NYC. It's too expensive to make a bunch of trips there, so I"m going to handle everything in Japan, as per the contract. I asked, she said it was okay for me to do that, but I haven't heard back since.

She has my paperwork, and I assume she's working on getting a ticket for me. But I haven't heard anything in a few days.

It wasn't my first choice (I got laid off a month ago from a different school) of a place or a location, but the pay's okay, and I really need a job, so I'm going to see this thing through.

But yeah, for a while it seemed like a joke: it seemed like I was the most organized person in the whole operation, which is scary.

My only advice to you is bring a gas mask with you.
And I'm not alluding to a surprise chemical warhead
attack by North Korea. Cool

Well Smee, I'm guessing you just received the email that says the job has pretty much fallen through, unless you wanna wait until August, and who's to say it will even go ahead then. Dammit!!!!! I had to jinx it:(

Yeah, that's twice this summer for me.
Well, it's better that our fears were realized now, rather than in two months.
Maybe now we can find a better location.
