Hi all,
My contract is ending the first week of August. Should I expect my director to book my flight out of here? Or, is that my responsibility? Also, should I expect my director to drive me to the airport (a 3 hour+ drive)? Or, do I have to get there myself?
Thanks. |

Why would you post this here? None of us know anything about your director. Some will do what you're asking, some won't.
Talk to your director. Only you and he can decide who needs to do what.

Rule Number one...Never expect your director to do anything~! That way you will never be upset.
See if he has booked a ticket and if not then book one yourself. Avoid any excess stress if you can. |

I agree. You don't want any hiccups or your director saying that he can't do it and leaving you in the lurch all of a sudden. Don't trust any directors!!!
Check the Internet for flights and availability and try to get a cheap one. I got one 12 hours in advance return for under 900,000 so if you shop around you can find one for a cheap price.
If your boss hasn't got your flight then you are prepared and you can give him the bill. At least you are covered then. Best of luck. |

As the others have said, I guess it depends on the relationship between you and your director. Why don't you get a bus to the airport? I can understand him picking you up at the airport when you first arrived in Korea to make you feel more comfortable and welcome, but I wouldn't expect him to taxi me back again. I think you've been in Korea long enough to be able to book your own bus/train ticket to the airport. |

p.s. That's also a bad time to be getting out of Korea because a helluva lot of Koreans tend to take their vacations around that time. If you or your boss haven't booked a flight yet, I'd recommend that you get on it right away. |

Well... is it in your contract that the director is responsible for getting you a ticket back to your place of origin in the states or where ever? If so, the burden is on them to get you a ticket back, regardless of the price and so on... if they dont, they will be in trouble if/when you don't leave Korea within a certain amount of time after your work visa expires.. if your contract states they have to get you a ticket (and not money to buy your own ticket) then that is exactly what they have to do... so if they dont, there is a number you can call to get some help... There is some office in Seoul that handles problems with foreigners employed in Korea... Anyway, though... its pretty unlikely that your school wont get your ticket because thier reputation will be on the line if they don't and things go 'legal'...
As far as the ride to the airport, they're not required to do that so if I were you, Id figure out a way to get to the nearest IC bus terminal. |
