I just found out about a free 3rd party plug-in for skype that allows full-screen video. I haven't tried it yet (still at work) and am not sure if I will until I read some reviews. I'd like to find out if it is full of spy/ad ware before using it.

If you're interested in checking it out visit HomeSpontania

I just use MSN Messenger video which works pretty well tbh. I find that it does cause my computer to lag tho, so perhaps a decent version on skype would be a way forward.... eway, just use msn if u want easy virus free video messenging!

the video size is too small. I'm looking for ways to have my daughter interact more with her grandparents. MSN video is okay but small. thats what I currently use with skype for audio.

The lastest build of MSN messenger allows you to full-screen video conference, provided both parties are running it.

i too have a mac. msn for mac has no video or audio.

there are, to my knowledge, three options for cross-platform chatting between a mac and a pc user.

1. ivisit :- has mac and pc versions. great quality picture but only if yu subscribe - costs about $40 a year for a license. no way round it... the free version has low quality video. ivist also has public chat-forum type of rooms where yu can meet people, even an x-rated section if that's your scene.

2. yahoo messenger - versions for pc and mac. perhaps the worst option. video quality is poor.

3. ichat on mac + aim on pc - aol instant messenger can video conference with mac's ichat application. i use this combination a lot. the video quality for the mac-user is excellent and includes full screen. the pc user gets a smaller window however.... still it seems to be the best thing going. the mac user can use an aol registration (free) or a mac.com registration.

well the mac version of skype (still in beta) has problems. I just tried chatting with a friend in London and he could hear me, but I couldn't hear him. apparantly he has no problems using aim.

Draven,

I didn't know about the full-screen with the latest version of MSN. I'll have to try it this weekend. thanks for the pointer

I found out that my buddy in London had screwed up something on his mac, anyhow he got working and we chatted last night no problem via skype.

I checked out the full-screen from MSN and it works, but holy pixelated batman! I guess my parents need to invest in a newer webcam with greater resolution. Even when I reduced my screen resolutin to 800x600 (I usually run 1280x1024) I still couldn't bear to look at it.

The additional problem with full-screen MSN is that when running dual monitors it full-screens on one monitor (not a problem) but traps the mouse on that monitor. This means I cannot use the other monitor for surfing etc...

I hope that gets fixed in a future release.
