So I'm tidying up my house today and I'm staggered by how much loose change I have lying around the place. Just bags and bags of loose change.
The worst offender are the cheon wons. They are bulky and you can't buy much with them but the lady at the check out always wants you out of there so you never seem to be able to pay with the damn things either.
I'm sure my bank is looking foward to my visit to cash in my loose change! |

I save all my loose change in a box that I am going to drop off at a charity at some point. Beats having it kick around the loose corners of my officetel. |

I collect all my shrapnel in the hope of bringing down the current Korean currency. Its my little protest for not having 20, 50, 100 notes.
but seriously I have a big water jug that I fill with my shrapnel. one day I will take it to the bank and watch them crap themselves. |

I spend every coin I get in the shops. Even 10 won's. And I don't care if the clerk has to wait for me to count it out. |

I find the coins accumulate pretty quick. But the banks here are good with them, I find. They have coin sorting machines that you can operate yourself. After last year, I took my change jar to the bank and walked out with a cool 100,000 won. It was like, free money! |

For the first wee while when I came to Korea I couldn't understand the prices people were quoting me so I always used 10,000 or 5000 won notes and collected everything else. In about 6 months (I'm a slow learner ^^) I had over 200,000 won in coins!! It has taken me over a year to use it all up. Now I just try and keep on top of it as I go along. Much easier. |

Me too! The coffee machines are a good way to lose that loose coin, also. |

Okay everyone, what is it with this never-ending fascination about loose change??? Damn stuff's launched more threads than Tiger Beer.
BTW, Eamo, at what point do I cease being a Dave's newbie? At the one-year mark (did that) or when I lose count of all the "So, whadda ya do with your spare change?" threads? I wanna know. |

To earn your wings on this board you have to have answered queries on the location of good cheese 10 times, and got into a slanging match about K-girls versus Western girls thrice.
Then you will be given a rendevous time and place where a committe of Dave's regulars will ridicule you for 3 hours in a chicken hof.
Then you're in...........but you'll wish you were out...... |

My wife beats me with her handbag every time I do that. |
