Prison Diary of an English Teacher
English teacher spent two months in prison awaiting deportation from Korea
"I was taken into custody by two police officers on Thursday, March 24, 2005, on suspicion of teaching English at a Busan language institute without a proper visa. In short, I was tried, convicted and sentenced -- or rather handed over to the immigration office authorities to be deported. Immigration determined that the case against me was valid. I was told I had to leave Korea..."

"The laws favor the employers, but severely penalize the workers. Currently, workers are hunted down and thrown into cages."

True of many- if not most- countries, as I've been saying here for a number of years. Immigration do not have to prove that you broke any laws, they can just declare you 'undesirable' and toss your ass out of the country. Sure you can hire a lawyer and fight it, and some of the more enlightened countries will actually allow you to remain in the country until you have your day in court... |

I don't think kiwiboy was/is black, as the writer of that piece, I believe, is.
Funny that during the article he doesn't mention actually doing anything wrong.

the reason he was in jail for that long (and still is?) was to fight the charge and to document other migrant workers' cases. He chose to stay. |
