i'm thinking of getting an mp3 player and i'm not too tech-savvy, so i thought i would get some opinions here. my friend picked up a 4gb ipod two weeks ago in yongsan for 220,000.
first of all, is that a reasonable price? (i have no idea)
second, is the ipod a good thing? (haha, very vague question, i know). i like the fact that you get 4gb because i don't think i'll have to patience to be uploading new music all the time. can i put any mp3's on it? (i don't have to get music from a certain site, do i?)
thanks in advance!

Yes, that is an OK Ipod-mini price. You're not going to get cheaper than that in Korea. Actually, check the box -- it might be an illegal import. The Apple store sells them for 230,000. It's common for Koreans to illegally import from other places to make extra $$.
Also, is it the newest model? |

Well, it's all about "generations" of the model. I think they are on generation 4 of the minis (I could be wrong). I bought my gf one at the Apple store a few weeks ago, and it was 230,000 I think. Oh, you can buy a cheap protector for it (15,000 for the cheapest) and I'd highly recommend that! The screens break very easily on those things! |

check out enuri.com for prices. It is all in Korean but only takes a short time to figure out. PM me if you need some help with it. It compares prices through all the major and minor retail outlets that sell over the net. There is also a heap of information including all the stats for each product. That way you can compare at home and look a little more knowledgable when you go to the store. I too am a total non-technically minded person, so this helps me heaps. |

haha. 4gb?!? my first ipod was 15gb and that didn't end up being enough, so i upgraded to 40gb. you're probably thinking the same thing i was before i made my first purchase: "i'll never use up 4gb". trust me, it goes in a new york minute. especially when you like to add various things like audiobooks and whatnot.
as for mp3's: yes (even those ones that you didn't exactly pay for). the only common filetype that ipods won't play are wma's, but itunes (the program that handles the ipod-to-pc connection) will just convert it for you.
being "not too tech-savvy", i think you may find ipods to be your best choice.
and yes, invest in a skin (a rubber thingy that wraps around your ipod). the body is made of plastic and steel which scratch very easily. |

You should spring for at least the 20GB. I have one and its great. I've seen them at Costco near Yangjae station in Seoul. They are in the 350000 won range. It would be a better bet than Yongsan because most of that is illegal imports from Japan and wouldn't be covered if anything went wrong with it. |
