I'm looking to go to Bali when I have my week's holday (end November time). Has anyone been there from Korea for their holiday? If so, can you give me any information about flights, accomodation, food and activities (i.e. costs, how feasible it is to do, and general enjoyment)...

I am hoping to fly from Busan and am waiting for quotes for travel agents, but if anyone can tell me what sort of prices they paid, that would be helpful.

Any info at all would be greatly appreciated! Razz

I've been there, but the price was skewed, since we booked like a week before departure during a major holiday season, so I figure the price was higher. We booked through JNC in Itaewon, and got a package deal where we were staying at a pretty nice hotel about 10 minutes' walk from the downtown area by the airport, and I think everything came to around 500,000 won in that package per person. Can't be sure, though.

We flew with Singapore Airlines, had a stopover in Singapore, did the final leg to Bali.

Was there a few years ago. It is okay. I would recommend the Gili Islands about a 4 hour boat ride away...paradise.

I was in Bali last summer for 8-9 days--went to Kuta Beach, and had a wicked time! Flight was fairly expensive (maybe 700,000), but well worth it. Beaches were awesome, got a 4 star hotel for like 40,000 per nite (2 people)...people were very nice, good food, great times...can't wait to go back!

Lombok!!
Screw the 4star hotel, they're for dorks. In Indonesia the best value for your money is probably a guesthouse. You can get a beautiful room on the beach just outside of the city for a unbelivable price at a guesthouse. The one we stayed at also gave us tea and cake every afternoon and had uber cheap massages.

My Bali pictures are here: http://keneckert.com/pictures/southasia/baliphil/bali1.html

Some people like Kuta for the variety of restaurants and the easy convenience of beaches and cheesy souvenirs. I have to say I like being pampered sometimes. I stayed in an excellent hotel, the Aquarius, which was about US$10 a night a year ago with a pool and breakfast. Kuta beach is a good place for hodads like me to learn to surf as the water's gentle and the locals who rent boards will teach you.

Head up to Ubud for some quiet and some jungle scenery and rice paddies, and to get away from the pestiferous hawkers on Kuta beach. Go a little ways south to Jimbaron for a quieter beach and awesome fish dinners. Some here are recommending Lombok but I must confess I hated it. Glares from the locals, people pushing drugs on me, and those wonderful Muslim prayers screeched from the mosque next door. And that blasted dirty ferry.

I paid 900,000 but this was a trip to NZ with a long stopover in Bali. I went the next year on a package tour for 600,000 and ditched the stupid tours with Korean food and buses stopping at souvenir stands all day. It's still a pretty good deal.

Hang on to your arrival-departure card. The crooks at the airport will try to collect a bribe for replacing it. When asked for US$25, I told the officer that I only had a thousand won, but it was worth about the same! He bought it. Cool
