New policy in effect regarding this. Just found out the hard way yesterday and had to spend two full mornings and afternoons in Mokdong immigration sorting it all out. My work visa ended today and I wanted to apply for an extra 10-day extension after my contract had finished so that I wouldn't have to leave the day after work, and I thought it would be really simple, as I did this at the end of my second contract (2004) and nobody batted an eye.
If you want to extend your visa a few more days now after finishing a contract, you require an outbound ticket in the near future. I got away with an itinerary and receipt today (couldn't get the actual ticket until Thursday), but I also had a nicer officer today than I did yesterday.
