We are about to switch textbooks for the next 3 month "quarter" and I'm thinking I want to implement a regular "journal" assignment into the schedule. My kids desperately need practice with creative English writing (i.e. not copying a sentence pattern or filling in the blanks). I could give each a paper journal and devote 15 minutes of class time for writing, but then I thought, why not set them up with weblogs and have them write something each day as homework?

Has anybody done this? What blog service did you use? I use LiveJournal myself but am wary of using it with my kids, as some are quite young, and I don't really want strange adults posting comments on their journals. On the other hand I don't want to handicap them from making international friends their own age if they are up for it. How would you propose I proceed?
