Adult stem cell clinical trials successful
The Ministry of Health and Welfare reported yesterday a large number of successful clinical trials by a group of local researchers utilizing adult stem cells harvested from the blood of patients with four hard-to-cure arterial and bone disorders. After undergoing self-derived stem cell implantation, 64 of the total have shown a significant improvement without developing any signs of negative side effects.
"This is one of the most successful results of adult stem cell therapy ever conducted in Korea and has definitely opened the door wide for stem cell therapy for hard-to-cure diseases," Vice Minister Song Jai-seong said. The ministry has poured in 4 billion won this year alone for the two research centers, he added.
In the case of cerebral infarction, an apparent improvement occurred in three cases out of the total five, while 7 patients with femur head avascular necrosis out of the total 11 and 33 out of the 35 total patients with nonunion of bone fracture counted as successful cases.

Excellent. It's sort of elegant how they can use the body's own resources to heal it. |
