Between 1880 and 1968 4,700+ people (mostly black) were lynched. About 200 resolutions condemning it were introduced in Congress in that time. The House passed some of them. Filibusters by Southern senators always blocked passage in the Senate.
Today the Senate passed a non-binding resolution apologizing for the lynchings--by a voice vote, which means no one knows who voted for or against it.
I guess it's something at least. |
