Herald School, I'm pretty sure it used to be known as Kids Herald School but they're recently changed their name.
What I can tell you for sure it to avoid the one in Cheonan at all costs! If this is the one you're talking with, do a search for kids herald school cheonan and find the gory details...or just PM me. |

I second the opinion on the Cheonan Herald/Kid's Herald hakwon.
More hours than many other schools in the area, split shifts, mediocre pay. The boss will be nice to you at first, but after 5-7 months, she starts becoming a suspicious dictator.
Past teachers have been let go without the legal 30 day requirement, not allowed to say goodbye to students when abuptly fired, or been cheated out of their legal severance/pension bonuses.

I work for a Herald School. They've changed the name a few times, from Korea Herald School to Kids Herald School to Herald School. There are about 50-60 of them across Korea and they are franchised. So you still run the average risk of a hagwon, but I think the fact that you have a chain of command to which to appeal could provide some advantages if needed. However, Herald Schools strictly controls curriculum, so much so that I wasn't allowed to give my students regular notebooks - they had to be notebooks with the school logo. And the notebooks sucked so much ass as to be unusable by anyone above the age of 10. But hey, they had the school logo! Okay!
Anyway, just do your normal research. |

I worked at the Kids Herald School in Ansan. Stay away. I know of only one teacher who was even a little bit satisfied with the school. One out of the seven I know who have worked there is not a good statistic. You were paid on time, but there was a lot of tension between the K teachers and the foreign teachers and at the end of a contract, only that one person was given her severance pay. |

The Masters is going great! Actually, I start on Monday. Oregon has a 1-year MA in Teaching that certifies you and gives you a Masters level degree, and hence pay, for any job you take. It ends up being about 46 graduate level hours squeezed into 12 months, so I imagine it will be pretty hectic. They told me that I can't have a job while I'm in the program.
Anyway, I'm excited. We just moved last week and got our Internet hooked up yesterday, so I was browsing through my old haunts, like Dave's. Saw the post about "herald" schools and couldn't stop myself from posting. |
