NOTE: The first part of this post is an attempt to "clear my name," so to speak. The actual question (request for advice) is the last two paragraphs.

RANT

A lot of you probably remember my posts (boss problems) from when I was in Korea. I've heard through the "grapevine" that some felt I disliked Korea.

I'd like to dispell this myth by saying that the time I spent in Korea was, by far, the most enjoyable time of my life thus far. The only negative aspect of Korea (in my experience) was my job, which was made negative mainly by my boss (school director who bought the school while I was there). The Korean people were wonderfully helpful and friendly to me, and they would consistantly go out of their way to make me feel welcome. I made many Korean friends in only the five short months I was there. The only racism I ever experienced was from the above mentioned director and a few immigration employees.

Because of a very sticky financial situation, and some potential legal problems, it was in my best interest to return home. But now that I've spent the past two months back in America, I want to go back to Korea. I prefer it to the current America.

QUESTION

Can anyone provide me with advice on getting another job in Korea? If it must be a teaching job, I'd be looking for a school catering to adults, not children. I tried teaching kids, and it just wasn't my forte. The adult classes I taught were very enjoyable and much more productive. As a scientist, though, I would give a higher priority to science jobs.

I'm just worried about unintentionally winding up with a boss like the one I had in ϻ. From many of the posts I've read here over the months, it seems like good bosses are few and far between. If anyone has any advice for me on finding a new job in Korea (from America), please either PM me or respond here. Either way, I would greatly appreciate it.

If you want to teach adults then you have two choices: you can go to an adult hakwon (like Pagoda) and teach on a split shift, or you can try a college. You mentioned an interest in science, so you might look for science colleges. There was an ad for Suwon Science College (the deadline was June 3) but there might be more like that available in the future.

Outside of teaching, job opportunities are very limited unless you are Korean. There is an ad for proofreaders at KAIST for people with a Masters in science.

There is no way to guarantee you won't get a boss like the last one. I don't know anything about the situation, but I know a lot of the problems with bosses comes from the culture. I don't know what it is, but there is something that produces weird behavior in bosses. It defies common sense that only corrupt evil people go into hakwon boss jobs.

OK First off I am not implying anything about the OP. I am about to quote him entirely out of context, but I couldn't resist after reading the post.

Sorry, too much news on MJ these days... Twisted Evil
And it was funnier until I tried to piece it back together...

On a more serious note, if highschool isn't to "low" for you, you might also want to consider the International Schools. You can sneak in some of those without a BEd.
