Hi, all-

I'll be in Seoul for a little over two months studying and am looking for a gym to join for that time. Sogang has no gym to speak of, just a weight room...I would like to lift weights but only following some kind of cardio work out. A really basic gym where I can just use a running machine or indoor track, and weight machines/free weights would be great. I have a feeling if I do too much running outside I'll have black lungs.

Does anyone know of cheap, basic gyms near(ish) Shinchon? There's a great place called the Mapo Culture center just a short walk from Sogang, but they are not signing up new members until the 27th, and some Korean friends told me that since it's so cheap (40,000 a month) on the day of registration people line up around the block the night before to try to become members. Seems like a bit of a hassle! I'd be willing to pay 40,000-60,000 for a gym, but most of them I've asked about around here seem to be over 90,000 a month.

There is a nice gym just outside Sogang's gate as you walk towards Shinchon station. Its up on the 5th floor and from what I was told its pretty expensive (like 90k/month).

Don't know the name but used to see it from the language center building

Here's what I did. I found (accidentally) a Korean body builder who wants to improve his english. He invited me to his gym. I'm paying 100K for 3 months with no strings or contract. It's a small gym, and the weights are a bit old but still damn heavy. And, I have a trainer for free.

I'm not in your area, and you may not be able to find a free trainer! But find the locals and find a small independent gym. Anything with a brand name ("bally's" or "world gym" for example) is going to be expensive.

Check out Yonsei Fitness Center near Donginmum(?) and three or four stop from the end of line subway line 3. They have cardio, weights, ass-shakers, bowling, pool, etc... Be aware that they have limited free weights and a max of 25kg barbells. But it should be fine for you. I think it's 80k a month.
