The last post got me thinking. I recently put a gig in my computer, removing 2 256's- which are now just sitting around. Is it conceivable to place those in my computer thus have 1.5 gig ram? To my understanding it has to be balanced, 2 chips must be the same- but I'm not sure.

Yeah most of the time, it'll tell you at the startup when it does the RAM check. Usually something along the lines of "Running xxx bios on yyy motherboard," if I remember correctly. If not, you can check the manual for the model. While you're in the manual, you can also check for the RAM information, because that's where they keep that kind of information. Did you buy a branded computer? Dell or Gateway, or something? If that's the case, you can get their manuals online.

That's what I was looking for.

Here's the product spec sheet at your manufaturer's website:

http://www.ecsusa.com/products/865pe-a2.html

Here's a product manual:

http://www.ecs.com.tw/dlfile/manual/mb/eng/p4/865pea_12b.zip

Page 35 of the manual states:

"As 865PE-A accomodates four memory modules, you must install at least one module in any of the four slots. Each module can be installed with 128 MB to 1 GB of memory and the total memory capacity is 4 GB."

Do I get a fee?

Download the manual, eh?

Anyway, I have one more question (soon to be posted) and if you can answer that I'll give you either a six pack of Bud or a series of free personal trainings.

Unless you're Derrek or itaewonguy. Then you'd need at least 10GB to play Solitaire.

Au contraire. My computer started referring to itself as "Skynet." Not really sure what that means though.
