Hey I was hoping that one of you technology capable people could help me out. I recently bought a DVD burner and I have all the updated nero 6 software on my computer. I have a lot of great dvdrip files downloaded and would love to burn them onto disk. I have tried to do so a couple of times but the files are not supported it says. obviosly this means that I need a different program or have to convert the files. Does anybody know how this is done and can they tell me please?

If you can find a way to convert the files to .mpg, then you're in business. Nero will definately read that.

Some files are often more complicated. I have an older Canon camera which I've recorded some short video clips on. They come out as .avi, but it's in sort of a proprietary coding that most other programs don't like. I can make the video work by bringing it into Adobe Photoshop and exporting it as another format, and then converting that format once again -- but it's a lot of trouble to go through. You might also try doing the same thing with Windows MovieMaker. Try exporting to other formats like .avi first. Then see if Nero reads that. But try to export the files at a size of at least 640x480 or higher (preferrably 720x486 for DVD).

I stopped burning most DVDs in the original DVD Video mode (making it like a true DVD Disc) now that i purchased a Silady DVD Player that is region free and plays most .avi, .mpg, DIVX, and .wmv files. I now burn the files as files onto a blank DVD, and the player reads them. Takes a lot less time to burn them, since they don't have to be converted. Image quality is not lost, either.

For 109,000 won at Carrefore, the Silady player I have is a great little machine. The video and audio quality are excellent, as well. And it's region-free.

The most common mistake people make with Nero is choosing "make a DVD" from the menu. It doesn't work like that. .Avi file cannot become DVD files via this selection. One must simply choose to burn a generic UDF formay DVD and drag the files into the window.

Of course, if you want to make the files DVD player ready, there are perhaps steps one can take to do this (re-encoding or something), but as they stand, downloaded movies are never DVD format.....unless as eamo says, they are .iso files of the DVD.

Does anyone know of any sites that have ISO movie files?

Most .iso movies I have seen (which is rarely) are .ISOs of VCDs. They are awful quality and are (IMHO) to be avoided. Sometimes one finds a DVD image, but that is exceedingly rare.

As for a direct answer to your question zappa (not that you should listen to me anyhow after my last round of mis-diagnosis with you), no, I don't know of sites that exclusively deal with that.

Is there any reason why there are so many PS2 ISOs and not any DVD ISOs. It seems like they would be similar.

I guess the reason is that with a DVD, one can rip it down to a reasonable size both to keep on one's hard disk to share and to upload/download to P2P in a reasonable timeframe. DVDs can be stripped down while still maintaining a reasonable level of quality. It takes a while to get a 4.7GB ISO. Also, many DVD's are way bigger than 4.7GB, the max on most DVD-R/RW media. They have to be ripped somehow to fit. Until we dual-layer, etc...

A PS2 game however, cannot be stripped down at all and therefore, must be ripped in it's entirety.....an ISO, or exact image of the DVD. These DVDs (games) don't exceed the capacity of DVD media.
