So today I was at Incheon Immigration getting my letter of release and exit order (horray! another long story I'll post about soon). Outside there's a Korean man with a funny hat wearing a billboard that says 'End The Crackdown!" in English and the rest in Hangual. I was sitting around waiting for wongjongnim-babo to arrive and all of a sudden a crowd marches down the stairs and to the bottom of the front steps, in front of which are several police vans. I go outside to watch and there's a row of 10-12 young Chinese guys handcuffed to each other in pairs surrounded by what I guess are immigration police and officials. Someone is giving a sort of speach and then they finally start shoving everyone into the vans. I can only presume there had been some hearing upstairs after which they were found guilty. They did this right after they re-opened after lunch, probably because they knew the place would be full of Chinese people and they wanted to make an example to everyone. Later the protestor with the billboard sign was inside arguing with a gaurd who wanted him out and was getting physical.

At any rate, I was wondering, could you imagine this happening to a group of illegal English teachers? Maybe with all the teachers they've arrested it will. I wonder what the ex-pat Chinese websites are saying?

-so at least you were entertained whilst undergoing the gruelling boredom of a visit to immigration Laughing

I don't see the point of the crackdown, considering Korea needs as many migrant workers as possible to do the construction jobs, and my guess is that many companies here employ them illegally. What they're probably doing is employing illegals intentionally, not paying them, then shopping them to immigration if they cause any problems. just a guess.

Someone on here asked me where all of the Muslims in robes have gone.

I was curious too, so I asked around. I often get a Turkish Kebab at that outdoor Kebab place in Itaewon (the new meat they have sucks, and is full of bones, BTW). The ajumma working for the owner is really nice. I happened to ask her if the guys from Pakistan, Turkey, etc., but her Kebabs.

She said, "They're almost all gone! Immigration came through and took them away last winter! Before, many Iran people too. Now gone."

I went to Thailand last month. About sixty of the passengers on my late night low cost flight were escorted by Immy officers. They didn't look like the usual sun-sand-sex crowd.
