Did this happen to anyone else? I was at Shindang Market when 3 police officers asked me to open my bag and show my ARC Card. Askd what I was doing and where I was coming from. They noted that I had an E-2 VISA then let me go. It was about 3:20pm.
What's it about? |

I was waiting to meet a friend for lunch in Chongno when a cop came up behind me and requested to see my ARC. He went as far as to call the station and checked for the validity of my number. After several minutes of holding, the operator came back with "I can't find any information to that number". I thought I was going to miss my lunch. Apparently he didn't want to miss his lunch neither - he returned my card and told me I could go. What a F-ing moron. |

Why? Would you rather he'd arrested you? |

Maybe he'd seen that photo of you in "K Scene" performing and thought he'd bust you. |

Nev, do you like it when your pleasant afternoon is interrupted by a lazy cop for no good reason? |

Harpeau....had the same thing happen to me. Maybe you and I look suspicious . I was at the coffee shop studying my Spanish and this immigration clown just came over to me and started asking to see all my books and my ARC (maybe he thought I was waiting for a private...I was not) He eyed my Spanish book suspiciously and thought it was some sort of English book. I had to point to the large title on the book, saying "no, no. "Spanish" see it says "Spanish" you f*cking retard (well, I didn't say that part)." He also couldn't believe that I wasn't working...that all I'm doing in Korea at the moment is studying at a coffee shop on an F2 visa. We had a confusing conversation....and finally the moron left. |

happenings of this sort used to occur pretty frequently in bangkok - thankfully, however, Thai cops usually just want a little folding stuff rather than the pleasure of deporting your sorry ass. Frankly, I feel that korean cops wouldn't be corruptable - are they? hey i feel a thread coming on..... |

For years people have complained on this forum that Korean cops/immigration don't enforce the laws. Now they are and guess what. People come on the forum and complain that Korean cops/immigration are enforcing the laws. What a surprise. |

So you can't sit in a coffee shop with an English book?
That's illegal?

If you are in NZ and the police there feel like inspecting you and finding out who you are and what you are doing, they will, as will Australia, and the U.S.
I agree with Ya-Ta-Boy, what harm are they doing?
Plus I think its this 'crackdown' playing a part here too. |

Hey Ya ta, do you have an answer to Superhero?
And Freezerburn, it is illegal to search anyone without probable cause in the commonwealth countries. Just because they do it doesn't mean it is right. |

If he handcuffs me, kicks me, maybe imprisons me I'd be somewhat upset. If he makes me wait a couple of minutes while he confirms my legal status I think I'd not consider my afternoon, nay my entire Korean experience, ruined. |
