PHEW! Thank GOD!
How could they HONESTLY pass up a chance to use the word Korea or Korean though. This is the country that advertises about 'Dynamic Korea' IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY. If it was so dynamic wouldn't they already know because they live here? |

Back page news: 40,000 little yellow people killed bye earthquake. There were no American casualties. |

Who peed in your cereal? I question the necessity of this post, but for you to turn it into a 'USA sucks post' is pretty low. Mourn the child. Mourn the fact that Korea sometimes is myopic. Spew your hated somewhere else.

Or rather, yes, but just like many (even most) other countries.
Contrary to RR's reason for posting this article, Korea is no more myopic than other countries' news media. The poster with whom you are so upset about is correct- the newsmedia in Canada and the US DO often report with that sort of headline, and DID report the tsunami catastrophe in that fashion, and I don't think the poster's purpose was to single out and bash the US.
Living in Korea for an extended period can also give one a certain form of myopia. |

I agree. many things that strike us as slanted, or even "racist" here are done exactly the same in our home countries, but we don't notice it so much there.
You don't see american news focussing and encourageing nationwide mourning over the loss of a foreign national.."Stop press, an Indian child was run over by a pedalo in delhi yesterday: Bush has flown to the white house for emergency prayers at the church and declared a public day of mourning across america!!".
I don't see why South Korea should focus its reporting, on what happens to random members of other nationalities across the world. Do you? |

While I certainly agree with a majority of the posters on this thread (Bulsajo, Rapier, etc.) I can also see the other side of the argument.
When I read the OP I was reminded of the Korean reaction to the beheading of the American, Nick Berg in Iraq. MBC played almost the entire video on prime time news (then later gave a half-hearted apology after a very negative reaction from the American embassy). However, when the Korean was beheaded we saw the Korean government outlaw possession for transmission of the video, and ban internet sites and blogs that could sort of, maybe, someday be linked to other sites that could, maybe, sort of carry the video. Oh yes, and arrest those who use P2P to transmit the video over the internet.
So, I can see how the opinion that Korea is more myopic than other countries can be formed. I don't necessarily agree with that opinion, but I can understand how it is formed.
Anyways, just my two cents. |

Nonsense. The tsunami was given immense coverage by CNN. Months after the disaster struck they were covering the affected disaster areas, and interviewing government officials and heads of state of the affected countries. Probably long after rich Asian countries (except Japan perhaps) had forgotten about it. |

Oh geez. Yeah, criticizing America is hatred. I think that's the line Bush wants the world to buy too. It's amazing the number of Americans who stumble out of the good ol' USA, go to other nations, and find out they're not, gosh, loved without condition. Frankly, I don't care if you interpret my criticism as hatred. That I pissed you off sort of brings a smile to my face. |

| Yeah, shame on those Korean news outlets for answering the question that many of their readers would have in their headline, of all places. Damn them for serving their readership. The papers should've made the readers work for it a little more. News shouldn't come easy. |
