There are still a few places left on the Great Dave's Mongolia Trek if anybody is interested.
It's not going to be a strict itinerary, by the books kind of thing. Just a loose nit group of people travelling together to save costs. We will, however, focus on nature and roughing it. Horseback riding, camping, camel riding, getting back to the roots of Genghis Khan. That sort of thing.
As for costs, the plane tickets to Mongolia will run around 580K won, and our in country costs should be around $50 a day at the most.
We are looking to head out on August 6th.
If you're interested or have any questions feel free to PM me.

Oh mercy.
It's such a shame that my sister and grandfather are converging on my hometown around that date. I absolutely can't miss this chance to see my family, but it hurts to pass this up. It's next on my list of places to visit. I've been in love with it for years (and who could resist the chance to travel with the illustrious Mith?)
Buzz me next time, okay? |

Going to Mongolia would be cool, but camping and roughing it would suck ass.
Have fun, though. |

Is this the thread for cute animal avatars?
I feel out of place.
I would gladly have done such a trip if I'd planned for it months ago. As it stands, my time off won't coincide.
Sounds great. Let us know how it went. |

Fishing advice for Mongolia
I have a Mongolia trip coming up and I need some fishing help/ advice
Tiamen - large "salmonid" law says can only be caught on flies. What rig specs ie line test is used and what flies are best?
catch and release only
Two other fish that are much smaller - can be caught other than flies law wise? Can I use natural baits ie salmon eggs?
These are not catch and release - I can keep and eat these right? Can I use a non fly rod?
Waders are mandatory for comfort? Can I rent a pair from the outfitters?
Where/who do I get permits from and how much are they?
TY

Hello
If you come to Mongolia I will guide you to catch Taimen/ TUL is in mongolian/ .
Mongolia is home to the world's largest surviving salmonid, the Taimen They are an exceptionally ferocious predator which feed on ducks, prairie dogs, mice, and fish. Historically, Taimen had one of the largest ranges of any of the salmonids with a habitat extending from the Pechora River near the Kola Peninsula to the Kamchatcka Peninsula in eastern Russia. Taimen have been known to reach weights of 200 pounds in the rivers of Siberia, and ?in Mongolia ?the largest fish landed to date on a fly weighed approximately 75 pounds. They are quickly becoming renowned for their voracious strikes. Most of fishing for Taimen is done with dry flies. Mouse flies work great, as Taimen almost always attack a properly fished dry fly swinging across the surface. All fishing is catch and release with single, barbless hooks. Taimen are handled with the utmost of care and consideration of the fish's well being.
Perhaps the most overlooked aspect of the fishing in Mongolia is the dry fly fishing for Lenok, the oldest member of the trout family. Lenok run from 16 to 30-inches long. They spend a majority of their time in shallow water where they are very accessible to anglers fishing assorted dry flies and terrestrials. Once hooked, fly fishermen discover a great sportfish which has been largely ignored.
I have some expierence for fishing.
I am from Mongolia
