Does anyone know a place to do water rafting or even tubing?

...someplace clean and not too overcrowded? Close to Seoul?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

A group of us expat teachers went to Kangwondo two weeks ago. There were about 40 of us alto-gether. Our group took the train up from Kyungju, and others came from Seoul. A lot of other expats from Kyungju arrived throughout the day from all over the place as well.

The rafting at kangwondo is one of two places where you can raft in Korea, and it's not full of rapids. It's enjoyable though, because of the scenery, and just the chance to be out in nature. It will probably be busy now, because of the weather. The whole water trip takes 3 hours.

We crashed 8 to a room, so we minimized the costs. All of the hotels there cater to rafting, so you just have to show up and they will do the rest. They charge about $25 a person for rafting in a 10 man raft, and transport you there and back.

If you are going to take your wallet, make sure they give you a plastic bag to put it in while it's in your pocket. i didn't and was a litle inconvenienced because of it.

There are limestone caves near the rafting place at Kangwondo, so you can visit those as well.

We had a barbecue at night and the food the Korean restaurant affiliated with the hotel provided for us was excellent. We chipped in for that, but it was very reasonable.

Have fun

That sounds like the same one that we are planning thru http://www.raftingkorea.co.kr/new_home/sample3/index2.php

Just curious, you didn't happen to see any campgrounds in that area, by chance, did you?

Chronicpride. Sorry I didn't see any, but I'm sure there are. The room we crashed in for the night though cost each of us $5. It was big and there were upwards of 7 of us in the room at one time.

Wow...thanks for all the help everyone.....

So you think that rafting trip you went on was worth it? Even if its a little crowded I guess I wouldn't mind too much...

Its only me and ball and chain as of now so would we have to get more people in order to get a raft?

No. The hotel will just put you in a raft with any one else who wants to go.

You might get lucky and be the only guy in a raft with 9 other lasies.

I went on a rafting trip near Jiri-san and ended up very disappointed. Almost no rapids and the river didn't even flow particularly fast. I was the only foreigner there with a bunch of Korean office guys and they made us do military drills in the water beforehand for team building.

Then the organisers obviously saw we were unimpressed by the size of the rapids so they turned over the raft a few times and threw all in. trouble was I had given the organiser my glasses to take care of and he lost them during the turn.

For the next few days I hiked through Jiri-san with visibilty of about 20 metres. My memories of the views up there are from the photos i saw after coming home with new glasses.
