I went into a coffee shop called something like "Twosome Place" this morning. They had a sandwich shop with mouth-watering panini prepared right there by a uniformed chef, and a selection of delicious beverages. I saw on the menu that they offered a "Rye BLT" and since that's my favorite sandwich, I ordered it.
However, they classified it under "breakfast sandwiches". And they wouldn't serve it to me after 11am. It was 11:15. Bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and rye bread were all readily available and the sandwich chef was not busy serving anybody else. They said "it's a breakfast sandwich" so I said "I don't mind, BLT please!". It went on like this for about 30 seconds and I lost. They sure weren't going to get my money for some other menu item after that treatment. |

Mcdonalds stops frying up the sausage patties, eggs and bacon after 11:00am. If there is one sitting on the warmer they will still give it to you after 11:00am. But they just won't get out all of the breakfast ingredients again just for you. But it appears the fixin's for the RYE sandwich were all readily available just needing to be slapped together. |

I worked at mcdonalds for about a year. (sorry, esl haters, this former burger flipper isn't an english teacher, so you'll have to look elsewhere for evidence for your theory) I remember we'd have cut people off right at 11:10 because that was enough time to where nobody's watch could be that wrong. and we didn't want to deal with "hey, earl, we got enough 3 egg mcmuffins? no? only two?"
But christ people would still piss and moan about it. honestly, i worked enough shitty food service jobs through college that i hate hearing people complain "oh, (sob), but the ingredients are right there! (sob) why can't you just make it for me! (sniffle)" I say, "listen *beep*. your watch is right here too. on your goddamn wrist. look at next time you wanna sidle your fat ass up next to some hashbrowns."
but i'm wondering, the title of this thread is a joke, right? |

I worked in a bar too. There's a difference between being asked to make something from scratch long after posted menu hours, and an arbitrary rule that says you can't combine a piece of bacon with an egg that's sitting right there anyway for other dishes.
I can sympathize with the OP. My fiance won't go to Baskin Robbins with me anymore because I get into such a rage with the staff. You can order a flurry from a list of three or four ice cream flavors and syrup, and when I ask for mint chocolate chip a few will make it, but most refuse because that flavor "would taste bad" or "it's not on the list". I'm the one paying, Gudammit, and it's just another flavor, not some extra expense or problem for the business.
It's a trivial thing to be irritated with, but I can understand the OP's frustration when a business can do something so tiny to make a customer happy and won't because of a "rule".

That was an apt generalization from one experience at one cafe.
My students told me I do a mean "My Way". That's all the evidence I need. I'm off to Vegas to make my fame and fortune! I'll try to mention Korea in my inevitable duet with Celine Dionne. |

Those morons really blew their chance to conquer the world when they didn't make you a BLT. Koreans are so stupid sometimes. |

That's why Americans handle customer service in the states, or Brits in the UK for Samsung, etc...
can you imagine Koreans running the customer service department in NY? |

They handle it for Koran Air and my mom who just flew here is damn pissed at them. She did a 24 hour reserve on her ticket (to make sure everything was cool with me) and then called back 12 hours later. Even though her ticket was reserved, the price went up $200. I cannot see this happening with another airline (she did say the service on the plane itself was the best she has ever had). |

McDonalds has a whole assembly line that they need to reconfigure at 11, so they can't produce sausage sandwiches in the afternoon or cheeseburgers in the morning. HOWEVER they will never tell you you can't have Diet Coke with breakfast or orange juice with dinner, just because their menu writer didn't think you'd like that at that time of day. |

i have encountered the OP's problem in fast food restaurants.
fountain pop. i don't like coca-cola, so i ask if i can have a chilsung cider with my set meal.
the answer?
"(sucks teeth) sorry, no. you have to have coke. it is a set"
"can you just move the cup over two nozzles and press a different button?"
"no. set."
"you're not losing money to do this."
"sorry, it is a set, you have to have coca cola".
so i cancel the set and order all the items i got in the set, with a similarly-sized chilsung cider.
it comes to about 500 won more and the server looks at me like i'm insane, but it creates a longer lineup, i get my cider, pay my money and i'm giggling inside at the inefficiency of it all.
by no means does this go for all service situations... my local korean restaurant is always giving me extra fish with my food because i look like i need the protein. |
