In what appears to be an electrocution accident, a high school student identified by her family name Lee was killed in Incheon on Sunday night when she stepped on top of a manhole on a street as the rain poured down. There were electricity wires laid underneath the manhole.

Tragic but it doesnt surprise me. The shoddy electrical wiring that they do around here is an invitation to disaster.

Unless that's an old news article (and it isn't) I'm 99.9% sure that's not the first time this has happened in Korea.

That is extremely sad and frightening. I step on those things all the time, and must have stepped on about half a dozen of them walking in the rain last night! This is an important warning to all, I think. I'm definitely gonna be more careful.

This is the new fan death. You're much more likely to be crushed on the sidewalk by an SUV than die in that manner. Welcome to Korea.

Imagine being crushed by an SUV during a flood whilst being electrocuted! Pretty terrifying!

Yes but just the fact that there is a chance of that happening to you in Korea should make the Korean government hang its head in shame.

The fact that it actually does happen should make any Korean electrician hang his head with shame too.

this post is trite but it doesn't suprise me. everytime there's an accident in korea somebody makes a post like that. can't dave make some kind of program to generate them automatically? here's the formula.

That's [sad/tragic/a shame] but it [doesn't suprise me/was bound to happen/was only a matter of time/won't be the last time] because korean [wiring/driving/roads/building standards] are [an invitation to disaster/a ticking time bomb/total crap]

It's not. About four years ago, during a flood, several people were electricuted when they walked by poorly grounded light poles on the street. Later the Seoul city government said they drowned after being knocked unconcious by the jolt of electricity.
