I keep getting gifts of Korean Red Ginseng from people. Maybe they are trying to tell me something.
Anyway I am going to start consuming the stuff to create more storage space in my apartment.
Is there anyone out there taking Korean Ginseng regularly? Any noticeable effects? |

If you're diabetic like me, or hypoglycemic, be really careful with ginseng.
It speeds up your body's metabolism and blood sugar intake, thus lowering your blood sugar level.
Too much ginseng, and you can go into diabetic shock. |

On the plus side,
Ginseng boosts your immune system and general energy level. |

i heard that ginseng also raises your body temperature, (maybe something to do with the higher metabolism, i'm no doctor though) so unless you're loving this sauna-like weather you might want to wait until it cools down before you start taking it. |

I've been told by a Korean pharmacist that there is a percentage of the population (about 10-15% IIRC) who do not tolerate ginseng well. If you're one you'll have bloating, cramping - basically the same symptoms as IBS. Of course you likely won't know until you've tried so good luck. |

Took a shot of it 2 hours ago. No noticable effects so far. Does it have aphrodesiac properties?
If it does I should probably call my girlfriend. |

If you're getting red ginseng, then I think that is Hongsam. Insam is the cheaper white(?) one.
With regards to the health things.. I took some koreans advice and started drinking some hongsam tea for a while. I got mad heart palpitations which led to me sleeping about 30 minutes a night for about 2 weeks.. until I realised it was the bloody ginseng. I stopped drinking it and returned to normal.
But for people it doesn't upset, its very good for health. Or so they say.

I like the white stuff for taking away a tired cranky feeling. I used it when I worked the night shift. I have to allow at least 6 hours before wanting to sleep after taking it though. The red stuff is too strong for me--too much of a stimulant--tends to make me nervous and irritable as well as sleepless.
