Okay, I'm bored again. My wife and I just had a great conversation on our beliefs regarding government. I found myself to lean towards being a social capitalist. My wife is a unique mix. Where do you think you fall?

Perhaps you could define the terms a little more, CL. What is a social capitalist?

I lean towards having a sage & kind dictator in control (a philosopher king). But it always gets messy when they die.

Interesting! I have heard that before, that a wise and benevolent dictator was the best form of government. But you are also right in that the transfer of power could be messy.

I'm thinking I am a social capitalist, if that means a free market with some regulations and safety nets.

Political beliefs are not even in my top ten for "what type of person I am".

Realist (personally, I'm a Ricardian)

I want my markets free and my government small, but I realize that there are many idiots out there who cannot take care of themselves. So, in the interest of heading off a total rape by the government to pay for the idiots in the future, I'm willing to allow a small level of government intrusion into the markets.

I'm going to take your meaning of Social Capitalism to imply a free market, but with a social net to keep the underprivileged from hitting the ground and certain rules and regulations governing out and out greed when it comes to the privileged. Just as a start.

You read me like a book. Poor people that are put into those situation by Big Business shouldn't have to suffer. On the other hand, those aspiring to be something better should have the freedom to do so. I was wondering when someone would guess it correctly.

Very Happy
