So whaddya think? Are they endowed with an appreciation of the funnier things in life?
Looking around I see a lot of fairly glum faces, with little or no laughter-wrinkles spreading out from around the eye-region.
Would Koreans laugh openly at the antics of John cleese hamming it up with "ze germans", or guffaw uncontrollably at the witty banter between the Two Ronnies?
have you witessed much of the "comedy" on korean TV? Is it funny?

they do laugh.. trip over a cable and fall into a table or something and they will laugh until their faces are blue.. just a different sense of humour that's all. |

My elementary school kids think I'm pretty freakin' hilarious, so I give them all credit for having excellent taste. |

I tell them how crazy Japan is and they always laugh at that. Also if somebody says something not very funny we (the students and I) always make jokes at them saying "get out" or "what are you doing". There is never a dry eye in my class!!
I'm going to be teaching kids next in September so that will be completely different. Usually you have to make jokes like "teacher isn't a monkey - you are!!".
I think that you have to make the classes funny and enjoyable. You can't be too serious here or else you are considered boring!! |

Ta very much.
*edit* Props to you and your fine bit o' Bacon.
I should give my kids their due as well. They crack me up. They change the songs in the curriculum to suit them, e.g., "Sure I can help you!" becomes "Shrek can help you!" and "Nice to meet you too!" is followed up with "Nice to meet you three!" They speak woefully little English, but they are funny little critters.

Korean comdies are quite possibly the saddest thing I've ever had to watch on television here (actually wait - it's a toss-up between the comedies and Arirang Propaganda NAZI News). |

Yeah, gotta say, Koreans find me freakin' hilarious. Although I'm still waiting for someone to spew some food out their nose over a joke I told.
They love sarcasm, btw. |

i'm not particularly funny, but i find that they do seem to enjoy it when u give things a ridiculous slant - overstatement, understatement and the like. Similarly, I found the Thais to have a pretty simple sense of humor (given the state of Thai comedy on TV plus from the insights of Thai - speaking foreigners).
Does anybody know of any stand-up korean comics, or decent comedy movies?

They have a sense of humour but I find it to be slightly juvenile....now, some would call John Cleese or Monty Python juvenile but then they just don't get it....so, perhaps I just don't get much K-humour |

I saw a Korean romantic comedy on TV a while ago that was quite silly and sweet. Normally, I hate "rom-com" and I don't understand Korean very well, but the acting and the story appealed to me. Moon Keun-Young was in it, and it was called "My Little Bride" in English, and "Eurin Shinbu" in Korean. The physical humour was a notch above the old "football in the groin" antics, and the characters themselves were very funny. |

Most Korean comedys are slapstick, they'd love Jim Carrey I reckon.
My Sassy Girl is probably the best Korean comedy I've seen. |
