Saw pictures on TV of Korean soldiers in the nude out doors posing for some ridiculous photos. There were other pictures of soldiers forced in mass to sit on the parade ground in the nude. Looks like Korea's version of Abu Garib (or whatever it's name was) in Iraq.
To top it off there was a picture of a guy with his head forced into a urinal. Geeze. ROK army is kinda brutal it seems. |

The urinal thing seems a little distasteful. Apart from that, it seems like they're being kind in this heat. I wear as few clothes as possible any chance I get right now. Them army boys are lucky.. they get to go to work naked and don't even get told off.

I used to teach on a ROK Navy training base and often saw marines 'exercising' in brutal winter conditions in nothing more than gym shorts- brrrrrrr! Brutal indeed. |

Clearly you've never done serious exercise in cold weather. Hands and feet hurt a bit, but you soon get to wanting to start shedding clothes.
It's also the easiest way to condition them to the cold. There are better ways, but they are mind numbingly boring. Exercise not only warms you, it takes your mind off the misery a bit. Or at least focuses you on different misery. |

Hmm despite my earlier comment, I think in winter time I'd be anti-nudity whilst doing army training. It gets a bit chilly out at times.

Clearly you weren't there.
The conditions I saw the marines training in were approx. -20-25C with a stiff Mongolian wind. They were outside when I arrived for the lesson, and they were outside an hour later. And they were doing relatively stationary sorts of exercises- squats, push ups, sit ups, etc.
Was it forced? Was it just being macho? I have no idea.
BTW I am well aquainted with cold climate exercise (Have YOU ever skied a 150 KM cross country marathon? But of course that was back before I discovered nicotine...) |
