I have a Dell Insprion 1100, and the darn thing keeps shutting down! It gets really hot--apparently, this line is known for overheating. I went out and bought a cooling fan that you set the notebook on top of, which runs off of the USB...but it doesn't seem to help. Anyone have any ideas? I think that the fan may be dirty, but I am unwilling to open up the case and start messing around...can anyone recommend a good place to get service (near Ansan would be great...)
Thanks! |

Just as a heads up, I had an Inspiron a couple of years ago and had the "Worldwide warranty" coverage, which I paid extra for when I bought it.
DELL Korea will ONLY service Latitude laptops however. The part I needed was the identical part number to one for my Inspiron, but after weeks of battling with Dell Korea, and my father battling with Dell Canada, the only option to have it serviced under warranty was to ship it to Canada at my own cost and have it re-shipped to me in Korea again.
Actaully - that's not true....they said that I could pay to have it serviced under warranty in Japan, but going from English to Korean to Japanese languages, I wasn't positive that I woudl get the service I needed, as the Dell Japan office couldn't offer me Enlish service at the time.
Perhaps now things have changed - this was 2 years ago - but it's something to look into.
Having it serviced here by a non-authorized dealer would have voided my warranty (becuase it had to be opened up and parts replaced) so it was a total pain in the arse.... |

You should 'Bravo Your Life' and get a Samsung.
On the serious side, Windows has a option in configuration or if you left click on My Computer and select properties (I'm using a Korean Windows so its hard to navigate) There should be shut down operations, make sure that the box is unchecked.
You can also go to BIOS and check your system temperature. Within BIOS the temperature of the core is shown. There is also a shut down temperature and maybe (depends on brand) a warning temperature. Sometimes you will get a sequence of beeps. Such as 4 beeps, 4 beeps, and shut-off.
Shortly after a self shut-off, reboot and check the system temperature in BIOS. If it's heat, then the temperature reading will be within 1-2 degrees C of the max (shut-off) You can also D/L software that displays your core temperature in Windows.
Something else to try is to use it right in front of the A/C and see if it affects it any. Or put the laptop on ice.
I've used Dells before and they do get hot. |

My Inspiron shuts off from time to time. I placed a book underneath in a way that it's not obstructing the fan's airflow. I don't seem to have it shut off anymore (but I'm also not running it 24hrs anymore).
My little rubber feet on the bottom have long since fallen off too, so I think that may have a little to do with the problem. |
