I cannot for the life of me figure out what is so bloody appealing about summer. It's too bloody hot and sticky to be able to enjoy doing anything. And if you do go outside of the city, then you have to contend with all the glory that nature has to offer: Blood sucking vampiric mosquitoes and other insect annoyances.

Did I mention sweat - yuck. If I do anything that involves moving in a non-climate controlled environment then I need to shower a minimum of three times a day. Hence I spend 90% of my summer in my apartment with the a/c running full-time.

At least you can dress for winter and there is no sweating. It's impossible to dress for summer. Even if I walked outside naked I would still be sweating up a storm, (scare everyone with my excess cellulite) and end up with a real nasty sunburn.

Summer sucks

Yes, it sucks. The only thing I like about the summers are the storms. I miss the summer storms we'd have back on the prairies. Now, that's exciting.

Fall is easily the best. The weather is the best and the temperatures are perfect in the afternoon and at night.

In winter everyone has to huddle around space heaters like animals.

Spring is alright, but for the damned yellow dust.

I think summer reminds us of the freedom of childhood- summer vacation- no more teachers no more books and all of that.

I grew up in South Florida- inland near the Everglades, far away from the sea breezes, near a smelly pig farm. We had no AC. We had more than mosquitoes- though there were plenty of them. We had gators, poisonous snakes and spiders, and hurricanes. People died every year from lightening.

But I loved the summer, and don't remember any of that stuff bothering me when I was a kid. Riding through the groves on a bike, swimming in gravel pits and swinging in trees, that is what I remember. Glorious freedom.

Seeing many torturous Southern California summers, I don't think Korean summers are that bad....at least there is the monsoon season to cool it off a bit. Seasons can be good for different reasons. Winter rocks because I can ski.

Summer sucks

Testify! Though it's quite bearable without the oppresive humidity.

The only good thing about summer is the month off that I have. Other than that, yeah in this climate, it sucks.

Okay, let's list them...

Mosquitos
Moist underwear
Turning into a human sprinkler if I go out in a suit & tie
The return of sewer stink in the city
The obligatory one or two bouts with food poisoning
Endless glasses of iced coffee until I give myself stomach cramps
Headaches trying to juggle staff's, clients' & my holidays
Dry cleaning & electric bills off the scale

What's not to like about summer?

Yah, Summer thunderstorms on the prairies. I'm from there, too, and that's pretty amazing.

It's pretty cushy, though, working in an air-conditioned hagwon all day you gotta admit.

I was reading some book about motorcycling and the author said, 'motorbiking in the hot Summer and feeling the relief of the cool breeze is one of life's great joys'.

You've seen Newfoundland dogs with their heads out the window of a speeding car, tongue lolling and smiling away. Like that.

My first year I'd arrive at a hot office bldg at 6:30 am. They didn't turn the a/c on until late morning. By lunch class the classroom was actually cool. Then they turned the a/c off early in the afternoon. By the time the late afternoon/evening classes rolled around it was sweltering in the classroom again. WOW! 1 hour's worth of a cool classroom everyday during my first summer. And I arrived in the middle of July. Puuurrrrfect.

Now, I have my own a/c in my classroom controlled by ME. Well, sort of. The kids are out playing, then they run in screaming "turbo". But, then I also have the little princesses sitting there in their cute little dresses freezing. So, I often have to be quite a bit warmer than I'd like, even though I have 'control' - yeah right. Confused

I love summer, when I was a kid my cousins and I used to get wet in the sprinkler until we were cold then lie down on the hot concrete to warm up again.
Eating popsicles, or if we had a barbeque it would be chops, coleslaw, potato salad sausages and trifle or pavlova for dessert.

Its humid here for sure, but if you grew up loving summer I dont think that changes much when you get older.

Oh yeah, even hotter and stickier than Miami Dade. My father lives a bit north of you, in Marian County. It is really nasty there in the summer.
