Is it out of the norm for a school to give you your ARC, then a few weeks later say they need it back for photocopying? |

Yeah.
And what is strange, the next time they need a copy they will not have one and will ask again. And again. Who knows why? |

Why not just make five copies and keep them in your desk? |

I think my over riding question is why do they need a copy in the first place? Is that normal?
Yes I do plan to make like 10 copies and stash them in my desk, good idea Yah Bum Suk. |

Refuse point blank, evil things may be afoot! I seen it a million times.
Hogwan : Um we need your ARC card to 'photocopy.'
Unsuspecting Newb : Sure (and hands it over)
Next thing you know your working in Miari servicing gay Korean men!?!
Argue, and if you have to, shout. If they persist, do a runner. |

Make a copy for them ( without handing over the card), and don't give it another thought. They probably just need proof that you're employed legally for their records |

Thanks for the tip Peppermint, as one may sumrise I am a bit rattled by the request. However, all good pointers, I will be secretly preparing to pull a 007 manuveer, while stashing my copies of the ARC in my desk, while keeping a Saab, and a laser beam watch near my school in case I get sent to service gay men. |

whats the big deal? photocopying of your ID card happens all the time! banks, cell phone companies, gyms the list goes on. it will only take approx 1 minute to do it, and then whats done is done. its not as if they can you use it very any purpose other than to have a record of it for their files. maybe they are doing you a favour? what if you lose your original? then they have a copy to show immigration to get a replacement. stop worrying about it. no biggie! |

Thanks Kiwi, first time its ever happened to me and have only been in Korea 6 months so it was a bit of a panic mode moment. Will pry the empty soju bottle out of my paw, and get over it. |

I keep a scanned copy of most of my important docs online and another paper copy in my files, just to be on the safe side. Having a copy of your ARC won't help you get a new one though- all you need is to go to the immigration office with some money and your passport. |

As others have said, it's usually not a big deal. They probably forgot to ask for it when you first had it done. Most places ask for it then for their own records. For instance, if immigration comes a callin' and they have to quickly show who's legal. Or, for taxation or pension purposes. Or, they're going to sell you to Al Quaida. Personally, i'm a bit more hesitant when they ask me for my passport. |

I photocopied the card myself and gave a copy to my boss. No complaints big smile and a thank you. I asked her later why I needed to do that and she said it had something to do with the Goverment, and she had no idea other than that.
Seriously if they hock me to the Al Qaida at least I hope they send me to a place that does not have such rotten humidity. |
