Hi,

I got back to the UK from a year teaching in Thailand about four weeks ago. In Thailand, i had a problem with the job I was doing (teaching science), and I left because of the complete lack of interest of the students in science. I understand this is due to the culture and (hopefully) not so much to do with me Smile

What I need to know is this:

1. As I speak no Korean at all, will this be a really big problem?

2. Are Korean kids going to be more into science than Thai kids?

3. What is the likelihood of landing a good science teaching job?

I have already booked my (one way) plane ticket for the end of August and just don't want to make a really big mistake.

Anyone that knows about teaching science in Korea would be really good to know at the moment - I'm scared!

Thanks to all

Science? Don't you know that Koreans invented science? More than likely they'll be able to teach you a thing or two, Einstein.

OK, any more thoughts anybody?

Koreans may be good at science, but how interested will they be at the sight of an English only speaking science teacher?

I have reached intermediate level in Thai, but unfortunately don't know any korean.

Think the kids will 'switch off'?

I really am bothered about this becuase of my expeirence in Thailand Rolling Eyes

I'm not sure I understand your situation here. Are you teaching in a program where learning English is part of the raison d'etre? That is, are you expected to teach a science class in English? If so, I don't see why your lack of Korean would be an issue. But I'd be interested to hear from people with jobs similar to the one you're taking.
