Hi guys,
I'm looking for inspiration to make my last english lesson really fun for the kids. I've done music and movies the last two weeks, lowering the stress before and after exams respectively.
Now I'm looking for a real humdinger to go out. Any suggestions?
I teach grades 1 & 2 of middle school girls for 45 mins (1 lesson in a week) their level is very low.
And i think pop songs are out as its a bit too late in the day to start a new song!
Thanks!!

you can teach an easy song in 45 minutes. Make sure it's about 100 words long with lots of repition and some sort of catchy hook. 60s pop is great for that. Make something like the shoop shoop song
Mickey woudl be great for them to learn as chances are they've heard it and it's pretty easy. Today I taught my 3rd graders kung fu fighting and my 2nd graders 'hey baby' by bruce channel in 45 minutes and I teach boys.
Also you could do some sort of group puzzle and have a good prize for the winners. |

I started a thread which got no attention on the Off-Topic forum called "mix CD for english learners" just today. I made a CD with various songs beginning with "Hello Goodbye" by the Beatles, and I was asking others for their suggestions of easy songs. I also have some middle schoolers recovering from exams and i want to prepare a fun lesson tomorrow. |

A couple years ago I had a first grade student (now I teach high school) who had on her own memorized and could nicely sing the Beatles song, "I Will." I think Korean grade school girls of all ages really like that tune. Older kids really like "Bus Stop" by the Hollies and "Daydream Believer" by the Monkees. On another thread somewhere I noted that I had bought the "Edutainment" activity package that included a cassette tape of suitable oldie hits along with "song cloze" listening exercise sheets. I've used them a lot to end classes on a high note. Another simple, catchy tune is "My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison, and it also has a transcendentally mellow message... |

One of the few advangates of teaching hogwan was that my best classes were small enought that I could affort to bring ice cream and cola my last day.
If you've got classes of 40, I'd suggest you go to http://puzzlemaker.school.discovery.com/WordSearchWithMessageSetupForm.html and make puzzles that incorporate the vocab you've been doing over the semester. You can add a new, cute hidden message for each class, and give out a candy or something for the winner. Just talking about summer holiday plans also seems to be a good conversation starter. |
