or not.

I've been watching news clips of the demonstrations going on in Edinborough (yes, you can spell it that way!) So far, the only comment has been that these people are anti-capitalist, anti-globalization.

Anyone have a recommendation for a SHORT online reading about them that would fill me in on their ideas? I say 'short' because I'm only marginally interested in what they are up to. Mostly, they just impress me as spoiled kids out for some attention.

all these strung out, "yo, dude" hippie protestors are a prime example of what you don't want your children to grow as....

protest is great...but most of these dna garbage dumps have no clue...just sheep in dirty clothing..."kill the capitalists and bring on the weed, dude." yeah, something to be proud of... Rolling Eyes

thought you would have sussed by now that you shouldn't uncritically believe everything you read or see in the mainstream press, especially when it comes to the anti-capitalist movement.
if you want the real story you have to do a little work.

Its just a load of bored scottish dudes who have been on the dole too long and enjoy a scrap to enliven their tired existence.

If a single one of those protesters had a job or the means to buy a car, i can't imagine a single one of them would be prepared to give it to a starving Ethiopian.

having said that, I used to take part in the (formerly named) S11 anti-globalisation protests in Australia. While some people did court a few abstract theoretical ideas, it was mostly a social gathering of fabulously bejewelled ferals, argueing which one knew the most about the properties of crystals.

I'm not really into human charity anymore. G8 will just serve to strengthen terrible african governments and further the anguish over there indefinitely.
The money should be going to Environmental causes- not keeping the human population at an unsustainable level that it already is.

Aaahh!! those were the good ol days in Oz!! unfortunately we relied on the capitalist fruit farmers for our income.

Yeehaa!! how to catch a nice tan in genoa!

canadians agree that Capitalism suxx..although they enjoy being the worlds second largest consumer of resources. However, all third world countries are desperately keen on getting capitalism.

Protesting is good. It's when someone who is protesting capitalism ends the day by getting into their SUV and driving back to their Manhattan apartment paid for by Investment Banker Dad and Advertising Executive Mom that it gets to be a little pretentious and pious.

Holding a G8 summit in Scotland ... reaalllly smart there.

Haven't they ever been to a British soccer game or seen Trainspotting?

Those infamous English soccer hooligans have nothing over their Scottish brethren.

That ain't gonna happen.

Where's Emma? She could shed some light on this. Hmmm...maybe she's in Scotland.

I stopped paying attention to anarchists around the time of the Russian Revolution. I thought the Commies fixed their wagon when they stood them up against a wall and shot them. Apparantly they have only been a threatened species, not an extinct one.

Where have they been hiding? Didn't hear about any till a couple of years ago at the G-8 meetings.
