Was given an offer for a job today and one thing I wasn't too clear about is whether or not a Private School is the same as a Hagwon? Going to be my first year in Korea and I'd like to start off with some of this security folk talk about in regards to public schools.

So, are private schools the same thing as a haggie?

I've heard that about half the high schools in Korea are privately owned - especially technical and vocational schools, but I know that the privately owned tech high school that I teach at is under the jurisdiction of the provincial (Gyeongi-do) educational ministry - and they send people to evaluate English teacher presentations ...

I don't think that applies to grades lower than high school...

Are Public schools most commonly 9 - 5 jobs and haggies are evening classes? Trying to dodge the haggies but thats all I seem to get contacted by, including the infamous Wonderland. Pass Smile
