can i get a visa on a one-way ticket?
i posted this question with some others but got no response to it... perhaps it was buried...
i plan on starting a job in Busan at the end of this month, i have found a very reasonable price on a one-way ticket, but the travel agent has expressed some concern that i may not be able to get a visa with one-way ticket... the director of the school has yet to reply to this inquiry and i want to lock in a low rate on a ticket as soon as possible... but if i get a one-way that i cannot refund and i need a round-trip for visa purposes... well... i think you can understand the situation |

maybe, but chances are "no" even if you get a visa there is no guarantee immigration will let you enter..
remember people....a visa only allows gives you leave to the port of entry...it is NOT A GUARANTEE of entry!!! |

Your situation is complex & you seem confused about procedures -- your questions are difficult to answer.
If you are applying for a work visa in your home country, the consulate has no interest in your flight arrangements. If you have all the required documents, they just stamp your passport with an E2 visa & you come over however you like. One-way ticket no problem.
I think thats what youre planning? You mention your employer applying for a blue form in another thread ..
If you dont have a work visa before flying here, then you will be given a tourist visa on landing & need to do a visa run (to Japan probably, & still requiring a blue form) before you can work legitimately. Coming in as a tourist on a one-way ticket could pose problems. Many have done it without hassle but you run a risk of being prevented from boarding your flight at check-in (by your airline).
What makes your situation real dicy (I get this from your previous thread) is the fact that youre trying to arrange a new E2 while you still have an unexpired E2 from a previous run, which you have not mentioned to your prospective employer.
Almost certainly, this is going to kill his attempt to arrange the sponsorship form for you. Without that, youre out of luck. You might have the slimmest of hopes of slipping through the cracks, but I wouldnt bank on it. I sure wouldnt buy a nonrefundable one-way ticket right now in your shoes.
If you do get the blue form then maybe youre okay -- I still wouldnt buy a ticket till I had the work visa from the consulate stamped in my passport. If the blue form doesnt come through, youre going to have to wait out your old visa, work illegally, or think about Taiwan or someplace else instead. |

the old visa is expired (i just checked)... it was only valid for 3 months beginning in April of 2004... i guess if i had stayed on i would have gone in with my former director and had the visa extended until the date of my planned departure...
the new director probably thinks i am a dope for overanalyzing the situation, but the travel agents i have been talking to made me nervous... would you still suggest postponing purchase of the ticket until i receive the blue form? i expect the price of the ticket could get quite high with such short notice... once the documents arrive next week and enter the bureacracy, anticipated wait 2 weeks, that leaves me 3 to 5 days to arrange a flight... talk about dicey
thanks for the quick input, it is much appreciated |

Um, so you did a runner last year while on a 3-month visa you never had to visit a consulate for?
You seem to lack even a basic grasp of visa procedures & requirements. Instead of "analyzing" your situation, maybe you should look to educating yourself (other than through confused questions on this board).
In the end, you & you alone are responsible for understanding & complying with immigration regulations. Its not that difficult.
If I understand your situation now, then yeh, it sounds like youre in the clear to buy your ticket. Good luck. |
